Army Under Secretary pays tribute to Korean War hero

Under Secretary of the Army Joseph W. Westphal meets General (Ret.) Paik Yun Sup, the Korean Army's first four star general, 17 Jan. 2013, Seoul, Republic of South Korea (ROK). During his remarkable career, General (Ret.) Paik Yun Sup served as commander of the First Field Army, the Army Chief of Staff, and the Chairman for the ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff until his retirement in May 1960. Following his military career, General (Ret.) Paik Yun Sup served as Korea's Ambassador to the Republic of China on Taiwan, France, and Canada. He also served as Minister of Transportation and is credited with the development of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway. Moreover, General (Ret.) Paik Yun Sup is the author of "From Pusan to Panmunjom: Wartime Memoirs of the Republic of Korea's First Four-Star General, Paik Sun Yup". Under Secretary Westphal's visit to Korea underscores the strength of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and the U.S. Army's commitment to sustain land power in the Asia Pacific region.
