It seems Peter Facinelli and his new girlfriend Jaimie Alexander certainly have something in common - a passion for fashion.

The Nurse Jackie co-stars showed the world how simple black is anything but boring, on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday evening.

While the new couple did not walk the Los Angeles carpet together, they obviously had planned their outfits together with both choosing highly tailored looks with clean classic lines.

Jaimie did flash plenty of skin thanks to the draped dress' spin on the classic black ball gown.

Showing off her slender frame the 28-year-old's Marc Bouwer dress featured dramatic shoulders and side and front cut outs as well as the figure flattering ruching.

The Last Stand actress wore her hair in an elegant updo with a large quiff, and kept her make-up simple with nude lips by perfectly highlighted brows and lashes.

Her boyfriend looked similarly striking in a classic black tailored suit.

Combining the slim fit suit with a crisp white shirt and plain black satin tie, the 38-year-old complimented his girlfriend perfectly.

Peter also showed off his new hair colour - an auburn infused brown hue - which he wore in relaxed but messy style.

The pair made sure to find each other once inside the Shrine Auditorium, where The Twilight star put a protective arm around his partner.

Peter and Jaimie first started dating a few months after he split with wife of 11 years Jennie Garth in March last year.

While Jaimie admits the timing was no ideal, the pair had known each other for some time and their relationship developed out of their friendship.

'We've been friends forever and had a lot of mutual friends and we reconnected in the middle of the year,' she told People in November.

'It was one of those things where I'd been single for a very long time and he was going through a lot. We sort of bonded.'

'It's very new to me and it's scary,' Jaimie said of their relationship.

'But it's also something we don't want to give up on because I know how it makes me feel in my heart. It makes me feel really good. He's a good guy with a great family and I couldn't be any luckier.'

Their union had initially hurt his ex-wife but the 90210 star has now moved on herself.

Jennie, 40, is dating Jeremy Salken, 31, drummer for the electronic band, Big Gigantic.

In happier times: Jennie has admitted she struggles when Peter first started dating Jamie but the 90210 star has since moved on as well

It's easy to shine when you're 28 and have never given birth. Jennie looks great for being 40 and a mother! I love Peter on Nurse Jackie, but this story is just so boringly typical.

Jennie always looks so much older and mature than him. I never understood that pair, he looks like a immature child.

Jennie is ugly as sin. If there was ever an 'actress' who got a lucky brake.. LindaAnna, London, 28/1/2013 6:42________ ____________________ What a spiteful troll you are, and an uneducated one at that, it's break not brake, unless you mean she has a fortunate brake in her car..?!

This is what men are designed to do. Breed. Historically, when women would no longer be able to reproduce, men would move on to the next one. Quite often they don't bother waiting. Yes it sounds unpleasant but it's also unfortunate that we live in a society that makes everyone feel like they have to get married and live monogamously (and quite often unhappily). - ukstern, Glasgow, United Kingdom, 28/1/2013 9:30 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Women are designed to procreate too. When your 'wife' gets pregnant by someone else don't throw a fit over it, after all it's nature, your sperm wasn't strong enough and she got bored waiting. Idiot.

great, weekends of the boyfriend's kids coming to stay , resenting you cos they need someone to blame, and not wanting you around whatsover-they'll've seen their mum upset even though the split wasn't your fault. I would have to be totally crazy in love with a guy to take all that on- and maybe not even then. I'd feel like the first relationship was continually hanging over us, becuase it most likely would be. choice- have the kids to stay, or have him go to the wife's- who wants him back, after all she was there first!- to see them, and sit there wondering what else might be going on? No thanks. . Honestly, though, dunno how people- male or female who could leave thier wife or husband- with little kids!!- and then take up with someone new so quickly and publicly- knowing damn well he/she is heartbroken at home.Always seems callous to me, but so many don't seem to think twice about it.
