Missing out: Isabelle Allen, 10, missed her first big awards ceremony on Sunday night after contracting a sickness bug

She's just 10 years old and was more than a little excited about attending her first awards ceremony.

But Les Miserables startlet Isabelle Allen was forced to miss out on the Screen Actor's Guild awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night when she contracted a sickness bug.

The British actress, who plays Anne Hathaway's character Fantine's daughter Cosette in the film, had been in the car on the way to the ceremony at The Shrine Auditorium when she fell ill, forcing her to miss out on what would have been her very first red carpet awards event.

A spokesperson for the young star told MailOnline: 'Issy went down with a stomach bug just as she was on the way to the awards.

'Sadly, she had to be taken back to her hotel and missed the ceremony that she was looking forward to so much and seeing the rest of the Les Mis cast again.'

On missing the ceremony, Isabelle also missed the sight of her on-screen mother Anne taking home the Best Supporting Actress prize for her role as Fantine.

And it would have been particularly upsetting, given that the youngster has previously admitted she wants to be like Anne when she grows up.

Isabelle has gone from an unknown actress to a household name thanks to her role in Les Miserables.

Attending the London premiere of the movie last year, Isabelle said: 'It’s been so exciting and so much fun.

'All the stars were so nice to me and I love Anne Hathaway.  I want to be like her when I grow up. I got a little nervous at times but I loved it. The best bit was doing my solo.'

And Hugh Jackman, who plays Jean Valjean in the movie, said of his young co-star: 'She’s incredible. Totally pure and unspoilt. She is the movie.'

Absence: Isabelle missing the awards meant she missed seeing her co-star Anne Hathaway take home the Best Supporting Actress SAG Award for her role in the film

Anne Hathaway looks like a clown. So goofy looking.

"She's so adorable. Can't help but feel 10 is a little young to be appearing in movies though?" - Unknown, Belfast, United Kingdom, 28/1/2013 16:45---------------- It may be, but how would you suggest casting agents looking to cast for the role of a 10 year old get around this problem? There is a very limited market for 18 year olds who could pass for 10.

Isabella is clearly a very talented young lady and was wonderful in Les Mis, but seriously DM; leave her alone. She's only just into double-digits, there's no need to start prepping her as tabloid fodder.

The guys who played Marius and Enjolras were fantastic singers, as was the girl who played Eponine. All three of them deserve as much credit as the big stars of the film. I absolutely loved this film, and the songs were fantastic. "Red - the blood of angry men! Black - the dark of ages past! Red - a world about to dawn! Black - the night that ends at last!"

GormlessinGlasgow , Glasgow, United Kingdom, 28/1/2013 16:40 You're absolutely right, the little lad was excellent and has been completely ignored. His name is Daniel Huttlestone, he is from The London Borough of Havering and is 13 years old. He played the part of Gavroche in the West End musical and he is a little star!

I thought the kid who played Gavroche was incredible and seemed to have more screen time than Isabelle Allen (also good) yet he is never mentioned.- I completely agree, Isabelle Allen was great but she was only in it for 5-7mins max, whereas that little lad was in it more and had much more dramatic scenes. He was wonderful.
