Katharine McPhee really is a doting dog owner.

The American Idol star was spotted cradling her Chihuahua in her arms while taking a stroll through New York City on Monday.

The 28-year-old was later seen toting her other pooch in a black carrier bag.

Both dogs were also lovingly adorned in matching vests and collars.

The singer-turned-actress considers her dogs - affectionately named Larry and Nena - as part of the family.

The brunette was bundled up too, wearing skinny black jeans, boots and a hooded grey coat.

Katharine, who is married to producer Nick Cokas, often totes her dogs to the park, to the gym and to the set of Smash.

'My little dogs are doing great. They are wonderful companions and I love them to pieces,' Katharine recently told People.

'I never thought they would become so famous,' Katharine said. 'They are very polite on set and everyone loves them. Larry is affectionate and needy and Nena is just as chill as they come. But both are very sweet.'

Katharine also mentioned that Bernadette Peters, who guest-starred in the show's first season, is a fan of her fur children.

'She loves my dogs and all dogs, for that matter,' Katharine said. 'My dog Nena would sit on her lap while she was getting her hair and makeup done.'

Smash, a musical drama series that has also featured Jennifer Hudson and Liza Minnelli as special guest stars, returns for a second season on February 5.

Of course many fans are intrigued about how the love-hate relationship between Katharine's character Karen and Megan Hilty's Ivy will pan out.

'I love our relationship because it is on a constant roller coaster,' Megan revealed earlier this month at the NBC TCA panel. 'We have all these beautiful moments, and then someone goes and ruins it, like sleeping with someone's fiance or something. It will always be that way.'

The one in the first pic looks very peed off. He might want to walk on his own four paws and not be carried around. He can't get near any lamp posts.

So is her hiring a paparazzo to follow her around going to be a weekly thing now or... ?

They seem like gorgeous dogs! I just hope she adopted them from an animal shelter and didn't buy them from a breeder or a pet shop.
