Each block measures 10" square

PLEASE NOTE: One or more yarns used in this project have been discontinued. You may be able to locate it at #.com or selected retail locations, but supplies are limited. If you wish to make this project using a substitute yarn, please go to the Yarn Substitution Chart. Please keep in mind that you should always begin with a gauge swatch and be sure to convert yardage for any substitute yarn.

 

MATERIALS
Caron Cozi™ (79% acrylic, 21% polyester; 2.5 oz/72 g, 75 yds/69 m): 3 skeins #0024 Ruby Red (A); 3 skeins #0023 Fiesta (B);
Caron Jewel Box™ (64% acrylic, 20% rayon, 16% polyester; 2.5oz./70.9g, 100yds/92m): 3 skeins #0020 Ruby (C);
Caron Simply Soft® (100% acrylic; 6 oz/172g, approx 330 yds/304m): 2 skeins #9730 Autumn red (D); 2 skeins #9744 Copper Kettle (E)
Crochet hook size US H/8 (5mm), or size to obtain gauge; tapestry needle (tn)

 

GAUGE
Gauge is not critical to this project; to obtain the size stated above, work to the following gauges: Block A St patt: 10 sts and 5.6 rows = 4"/10 cm; Block B St patt: 10 sts and 5.6 rows = 4"/10 cm; Block C St patt: 11.2 sts and 12 rows = 4"/10 cm; Block D St patt: 11.2 sts and 8 rows = 4"/10 cm; Block E St patt: 11.2 sts and 8 rows = 4"/10 cm

NOTE
Throw may be made larger or smaller by adding or subtracting rows of Blocks (see Diagram). Be sure to adjust yarn amounts if changing size.

 

BLOCK A (make 3)
Ch 26.
Row 1: Dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn—25 dc.
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in each dc across, turn.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 10" (14 rows) from beginning.
Fasten off.

 

HALF-BLOCK A (make 2)
Work as for Block A until piece measures 5" (7 rows) from beginning.
Fasten off.

 

BLOCK B (make 3)
Ch 27.
Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn—25 dc.
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in first 2 dc, * FPdc in next st, dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * across, end dc in last 2 dc, dc in turning ch, turn.
Row 3: Ch 2, dc in first 2 dc, * BPdc over st in previous row, dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * across, end dc in last 2 dc, dc in turning ch, turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 10" (14 rows) from beginning.
Fasten off.

 

HALF-BLOCK B (make 2)
Work as for Block B until piece measures 5" (7 rows) from beginning.
Fasten off.

 

BLOCK C (make 4)
Ch 29.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn—28 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each sc across, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 10" (30 rows) from beginning.
Fasten off. 

 

BLOCK D (make 4)
Ch 32.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, * skip 1 ch, sc in next ch, skip next ch, 3 dc in next ch, (shell made); repeat from * across, end last repeat 2 dc in last ch, turn—6 shells/ half shell at each end .
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, * 3 dc in next sc (shell), sc in center of next shell; repeat from * across, end last repeat sc in last st, turn—7 shells.
Row 3: Ch 3, dc in first sc, * sc in center of next shell, 3 dc in next sc (shell); rep from * across, end 2 dc in last st, turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 10" (20 rows) from beginning.
Fasten off. 

 

BLOCK E (make 4)
Ch 30.
Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across, turn—28 dc.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 2, * FPdc in next 3 dc, BPdc in next 3 dc; repeat from * across, end FPdc in next 3 dc, dc in last dc, turn.
Rows 4 and 5: Ch 2, * BPdc in next 3 dc, FPdc in next 3 dc; rep from * across, end BPdc in next 3 dc, dc in last dc, turn.
Rows 6 – 20: Repeat Rows 2 – 5, ending Row 4.
Edging: Work 1 row hdc around Block, working 3 hdc in each corner st.
Fasten off.

 

FINISHING
Using tapestry needle and yarn color of choice, sew blocks together using overcast stitch (see Diagram); join 5 Blocks for each vertical strip (2 half-blocks = 1 block on second and fourth strips), then join strips.
