How Stanford’s Million-Core, Five Dimensional Super Computer Will Silence Jet Engines

The modern-day jet engine may be powerful enough to shuttle travellers across a continent in just six hours but it's also unbearably loud—for both the ground crews that work around them and residents within earshot of airports. And while aircraft engineers are developing quieter designs, building and testing these hushed prototypes can run into the six figures. But with the help of the US Livermore National Labs' supercomputer and some open-source modelling software, commercial airliners may soon be whisper quiet. Read More >>

How Did You Poop Before Smartphones?

Sitting on the can without a smartphone—much like sitting at the bar without a smartphone—is soooo boring. What are you supposed to do with yourself? Be alone with your thoughts? Talk to the person on the toilet/stool next to you? Ugh. Read More >>

Google Street View Captured a Couple Getting Naked in a Fitting Room

Because Google Street View is the all seeing eye of the universe, it has done wonderful things like go underwater, trek the Grand Canyon and... blessing us with an endless amount of laughter because of the ridiculous things Street View finds. This one might top it all though. A couple was found pants down (or I guess, underwear down) in a fitting room, presumably about to get freaky. Read More >>

Why the Hell Does Hulu Show Spoiler Commercials for the TV Show You’re Watching?

Hulu, for all its good intentions and fairly solid stream quality, kind of sucks. It doesn't have enough TV shows, it doesn't have enough episodes, you still have to watch commercials even when you pay for Hulu Plus but worst of all, sometimes those commercials you're forced to sit through are about future episodes of the freaking TV show you're watching. Basically, if you watch Hulu, it's like being chained down to a chair for Spoiler Russian Roulette. Read More >>

This Is What Happens When Your Baker Doesn’t Understand English

The scene: a woman goes to buy a cake for, oh, let's say her cat Whiskers's birthday. She decides to put a photo of Whiskers's face on top of the cake because oh isn't that fun and also she's a very lonely woman. She hands the baker a USB drive and asks that she use the photo. The baker smiles and nods because English is her second language and because this customer asking for a flash drive on a cake is clearly insane and should be dealt with accordingly. The result, as you can see, is glorious. Read More >>

Long Exposure Photographs Reveal How Lovers Sleep

I'm such a wild sleeper than sometimes I wake up in the most awkward of positions. Face planted, facing the wrong direction, diagonal, on the completely other side—you name it, I've woken up in it. I was always wanted to know my movement patterns. Photographer Paul Schneggenburger created a photography series that showed long exposure pictures of lovers asleep. You can see who the big spoon is!
