  • How do we decide what to publish?

We want the information that appears on these pages to be as interesting and informative as possible.

The decision to publish is informed by two main things: Firstly, we take into account the number of requests received to make that information publicly available. Secondly, we will prioritise the publication of information that will have a particular benefit, such as informing decision making within the industry or by our customers, or increasing understanding of and trust in what we do.

Over time, we are going to publish further information in line with these principles. To help us keep the content relevant to you, please make a suggestion using our suggest information page.

How often do we add new information?

At this stage, we intend to add new content every three months. If a particular data set needs updating more regularly to remain relevant we will update it more often.

Do you handle requests for information in the same way as bodies covered by the Freedom of Information Act?

We’re not covered by the Freedom of Information Act, so we don’t deal with requests in the same way as bodies which are.

Initially, our focus is on proactively disclosing information. In time we’ll consider how best to handle requests for information.

In the meantime, you can use our suggest information page or contact our National Helpline. Alternatively you can make an FOI request to the Department for Transport or to the Office of Rail Regulation, both of which are covered by the Act.

Why hasn’t my suggestion been published?

Due to the volume of requests it is not possible to publish every bit of information suggested. Sometimes, the publication of information would, in our opinion, jeopardise the safe running of the railway, while some requests are for information that we don’t collect.
