Modellounge

Models hang out and relax in Bernard Smith's Modellounge.

Is it too early in the week to play a little word association? *pauses for response* Am I still going to try it even if you object because I can't actually hear you over the whirr of my desktop computer? YUP! *prepares to shove ice-breaker game down readers' throats* What do you picture when you think of models off-duty? Is it street style shots of loping gazelles of women walking expertly on stiletto Louboutins across cobble stone streets? Seemingly impossible cheekbones hovering over effortless high fashion ensembles? While that's still all pretty true, there's a totally other side that we don't typically get to see — models just being regular girls, hanging out, practicing their walks, and playing video games and stuff — and there's actually a place in NYC where all that off-off duty action goes down: Modellounge X Microsoft.

MTV may have changed since its early days, but we're always looking out for the music. Here at MTV Style, we're continually looking for the places where music and fashion come together, and, lucky for us, it happens fairly often. One of the brands we can always count on to make the connection is Opening Ceremony, and this New York Fashion Week, designer Chloe Sevigny is upping the brand's usual music and fashion game even further than before by casting musicians in her Autumn Winter 2013 presentation. Taking place this Saturday, the clothes will be worn by the punk legends Kim Gordon and Ikue Mori, singer Lissy Trullie, Lizzi Bougatsos of I.U.D. and Gang Gang Dance, Bleached, and Light Asylum's Shannon Funchness. It's basically all of the coolest downtown ladies getting together and trying on clothes. But wait, that's not all. This isn't just a musicians-as-models scenario: the presentation will also feature performances from each of the artists, at least according to Women's Wear Daily.

Rihanna Tattoo

Rihanna for 'Rolling Stone.'
Photo: Terry Richardson/Rihanna's Instagram

You may remember us freaking out over Rihanna's super simple (and sultry!) Rolling Stone photo shoot from last week, but yesterday RiRi revealed even MORE Terry Richardson outtakes via Instagram, and we were hit with a mega surprise: She has a new tattoo, y'all! Now, we don't mean to be creepy, but, like, we know Rihanna's 18 or so tattoos (Rihanna Daily did an AMAZING job laying out all her tats year by year), and this is one that we've definitely never seen before.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus wears black and white striped pants from MotelRocks.

We first pegged black and white pants as trending way back in October, just in time for Halloween. But turns out this isn't just a flash-in-the-pan fad, because three months later we're still obsessed, and it's all thanks to Miley Cyrus. The actress and singer has proven her achromatic jeans to be a tried and true closet staple, often wearing them with a black top, combat boots and some key accessories. She tweeted a photo in the studio earlier this week, pairing her MotelRocks pants with a tank top, huge hoop earrings, and a black beanie, and then just days later our girl's at it again! This time, she's posing with Lil Mama in (slightly) smaller hoops and short-sleeves. Hey, Miley's clearly onto something— jailhouse stripes, Beetlejuice bottoms, whatever you want to call them. They're everywhere these days, from the Marc Jacobs runway to our fave style bloggers, and we've rounded up the best pairs to buy for yourself below!

Hayley Williams

Paramore covers this week's 'The Guardian Guide.'
Photo: via 'The Guardian Guide'

Fact: Hayley Williams can wear just about ANYTHING and make it look good. The Paramore frontwoman shops at the Target kids section, works baby bangs, flaunts Mickey Mouse tights, and now she's gracing the cover of The Guardian Guide in a duct tape dress. Ok, maaaaybe it's not QUITE the same as those taped prom dresses some girls wear to their high school proms and you can barely see it tucked under her leather jacket, but still— this Cheap Monday frock has statement tape accents splashed across the bodycon gray silhouette. The dress first debuted back in 2002, and of course, just like basically everything the singer wears, it's sold out. But who says you have to scour eBay for the real thing? Thanks to American Apparel and duct tape from your local hardware store, this is basically the easiest DIY project ever.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato on the cover of British "Cosmo On Campus."
Photo: Marc Hom/Cosmopolitan

Our deep love for Demi Lovato is not a thing we keep secret around here at MTV Style. From her killer pipes to her arguable Topshop addiction to her airtight beauty game, Demi hits all of our favorite intersections of music and style. That's why, even though we're pretty sure this cover snap for the Spring Term 2013 issue of British Cosmo On Campus is recycled from Lovato's American Cosmopolitan cover shoot with Marc Hom, we're STILL bananas excited for it. I mean, look at this girl! The windblown loose ringlets? The sweet, underwire dress with a natural waist? The GLOWING bronzed skin that is starkly reminding us of our severe Vitamin D deficiency? She's a goddess.

Yep, it's that time again! Our favorite Hills girl Lauren Conrad has released yet another tried-and-true collection for Kohl's, and spoiler alert: It rules. Her LC Lauren Conrad spring line is filled with tons of breezy pieces including super cute printed skater dresses, summery nautical striped tops and work-ready blazers. We picked out our favorite eight ensembles from her lookbook that'll (hopefully!) get you pysched for the spring weather ahead. (Gosh, how many more months until then? *looks longingly outside at snow-covered streets*) So, let's get to it! Up first is a cool and casual weekend ensemble—a lace-trim white sweater ($50) and faded red cuffed jeans ($50) paired with black platform pumps ($60) and a killer vintage bike. In another look, LC goes window shopping in a black and white polka dot collar dress ($60) and strappy nude heels ($70). Perf!

Quvenzhane Wallis

Quvenzhané Wallis says puppy purses are "her signature."
Photo: Getty Images

This year's littlest Oscars Best Actress nominee, Quvenzhané Wallis, initially captured our hearts in the riveting indie Beasts of the Southern Wild, and as we've soldiered on through awards season, she's caught our eye as a rising style star. Her red carpet steez strays infrequently from her go-to cocktail frock + shiny flats + curls, but one style element that's definitely a constant in her public appearance outfits is: a plushy puppy purse! During a recent stint on The Ellen Show, Quvenzhané revealed to DeGeneres that she has "about 20" different puppy purses, and confirmed that she will be toting one at this month's Academy Awards. "Yes, of course," she told Ellen, "That's my signature! I've had this since Utah." Utah! She's referring, of course, to last year's Sundance Film Festival when and where Beasts premiered.

Willy Moon.
Photo: Courtesy of Willy Moon.

We didn't think there were too many dudes who could pull off a formal suit with the same swagger as, say, Mark Ronson or Justin Timberlake, but now that Willy Moon has graced us (and our iPods) with his presence, let's just say there's DEFINITELY room for more than one well-dressed singer in our lives. The New Zealand-born musician first made waves back in the fall when his breakout single "Yeah Yeah" was featured in an Apple commercial, but nowadays he's gaining traction for his slick style as well as his old-meets-new rockabilly sound. This 23-year-old has killer dance moves (you've got to see it to believe it), major vocal pipes, and an onstage style that's captivated British VOGUE, our little sisters, and everyone in between. And while people have been quick to peg his onstage steez (David Bowie! James Dean! The list goes on...), Willy tells us his inspiration isn't inspired by a particular person, but an idea. "On stage I dress like a rock'n'roll villain," he said over email last week. "I love the cartoonification of characters." This animated quality can be seen in the video for "Yeah Yeah," where the singer performs front and center in a slim-cut powder blue suit and a perfectly groomed coif. "We had an enormous selection of clothes, but I ended up choosing the McQueen suit because the blue really suited the way we wanted to shoot the video," he remembers. "I've always liked 3-piece suits and hated ties so it was a perfect combination."

If you're not familiar with the faces below quite yet, you better hurry up and hop on board the Little Mix train, STAT. These former X Factor UK contestants-turned-girl group are already bonafide pop stars overseas (32 million YouTube hits, NBD), and now they're on the fast track to conquering the U.S. music scene with their debut single "Wings." The addictive R&B-inflected dance track officially dropped last year, but as of today those of us stateside can finally buy the song for ourselves. And with an equally awesome video, we can't really think of a better way to give Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall a true American welcome than to break down all of the rad outfits the girls wore in "Wings". So what are we waiting for?! Let's do this!

FACE TIME

The vid kicks off with up-close-and-personal shots of each of the girls— in other words, the perfect band intro AND a foreshadow of the individual looks to come. From Leigh-Anne's red lips to Jade's major lashes, it's clear the beauty inspiration is just beginning.

Like the black and white shoes and black and white patterned gloves - think they make Adam's outfit "hang together" and flow better. Rocky looks great, too, but would like a little pattern on the shoes.
