Royal in repose! Dressed down Zara Phillips steps out in Oz wearing a pair of very unregal ripped jeans

She has never been one of those immaculate royals who fear getting a hair out of place.

The refreshingly down-to-earth granddaughter of the Queen is known for her simple style and comfortable manner of dressing.

And yesterday, as Zara Phillips stepped out in Oz, she looked the very embodiment of a royal in repose in a pair of ripped jeans and casual T-shirt.

Zara was in Sydney to attend a memorial service for a friend and, returning to the airport following the flying visit, she had clearly dressed for comfort ahead of the long flight back to the UK.

It is not the only time Zara has been spotted in her jeans of course - as an Olympic medal-winning horsewoman she most is as at home in her jeans and riding boots.

But Zara scrubs up well too. Earlier this year she made an appearance at the Magic Millions equestrian event on Australia's Gold Coast dressed to the nines in glamorous dress and hat.

She does race day dressing with panache, always smart in tailored wool coats paired with flamboyant headgear by milliners like Philip Treacy, Jane Taylor or Jane Corbett.

At her wedding to Mike Tindall in July 2011 she looked elegant in a full gown by Stewart Parvin, the Queen's own couturier.

And at myriad Royal occasions she has stepped up to the style plate - proving that when it comes to fashion, she is a truly multifaceted royal.

Here are a few of her best style moments...

Zara has her own money, she isn't on the Civil List, never has been. So if she chooses not to work that's her business - how many other of our top sportsmen and women do a full-time job? Leave her alone, spiteful saddos...

She looks better dressed down than dressed up.

She's quite fit, but that's about it.

Nice to see people criticising her for not working. Because of course, all the other equestrians of the world hold down a 9-5.......

The dumber you become, the bigger and more ridiculous your hats become.

Zara 'works; Zara is 'hard working'. At what, exactly? She carries out no Royal duties, and has never had a job. Nice girl, very laid back, brilliant horsewoman, but she doesn't 'work'.- Annie Scott, Bognor Regis, 7/2/2013 5:48 -----Thank you, she has money from the Queen Mother and trades off being a royal to earn sponsorship for a very expensive hobby. She has all the advantages of being royal with none of the responsibilities. Her mother did her and her brother a great favour with the no title scam. Posters fall over themselves to gush about how "normal" and "down to earth" she is, what a joke.
