The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has a challenging and varied remit, covering everything from innovation and enterprise to promoting trade, exports and corporate responsibility.
Our Shareholder Executive (ShEx) looks after a portfolio of businesses in which Government has a shareholding, working with government departments and executive teams. ShEx also advises across Government on corporate finance, including launch aid and regional and industrial assistance.
The ShEx Chief Executive is a key leader in BIS, sitting on the Department’s board and working at the highest levels across Government.
Following promotion of the previous incumbent as Permanent Secretary of the Department of Energy and Climate Change, we are now looking for an outstanding and proven leader to:
- act as a key adviser to the Secretaries of State in BIS and other departments on shareholding and commercial issues
- manage the centre of corporate finance expertise within government
- build effective and productive partnerships with shareholders
- give strong leadership to ShEx, communicating a clear vision, motivating its staff and driving a culture of high performance.
You will need to have a clear track record of leadership in corporate finance, be a natural operator in a highly political environment and have impressive judgement, analytical and communication skills, combined with the personality and presence to influence, negotiate and persuade at the highest levels.
