Sacked admissions director sues exclusive British school in New York claiming UK employees got better treatment (and why men prefer Asian women)

A fired employee is suing an exclusive British-run private school in Manhattan, claiming she was treated differently because she is American.

Sarah Bottoms, 49, who worked at the World Class Learning Academy in the East Village until late last year, says the British staff were offered better perks, that bosses wanted to 'get rid of the Americans' and talked about sex at work.

The Brooklyn mother filed a suit in Manhattan civil court claiming national-origin, sex and age discrimination, as reported by the New York Post.

Bottoms claims that school chiefs John and Dawn Taylor 'gave British employees greater allowances for time off, raises, excusal from student supervisory duties and subsidized lunches.'

The former admissions officer says in the lawsuit that these benefits were not available to American staff.

Bottoms worked at the school, where annual fees can rise to $34,000, for three years but lost her job in December.

 

She alleges that at last year's Christmas Party Ms Taylor said to some fellow Brits: 'We need to get rid of the Americans.'

Bottoms also claims that Dawn often discussed sex in the office. The suit states that Dawn told Bottoms on more than one occasion that men preferred Asian woman because 'their sexual organs were smaller.'

According to court documents, the American woman also claims that Ms Taylor criticized her personally, telling her off for wearing pant suits and asking her to use lipstick because 'that’s how an admissions director should dress.'

Bottoms claims that when she took her grievances to the school's HR department she was fired.

'World Class Learning takes this very, very seriously, and will conduct a very thorough investigation and take appropriate action,' school lawyer Ben Fryer told the Post.

The British employees were just getting the same kind of perks they would have got working in the UK, blame America for having bad Employment provisions for American citizend, Americans only get two weeks holiday a year !! Lol But we get paid twice as much for doing the same job, a much better house, car & weather. Ex Pat.

Anon, London, Ireland I agree with you. Thats probably what happened. The only problem I'd have with the whole thing is if he really said that they had to get rid of the Americans, then there's probably some truth to her argument.

Hey As Mad, Manchester. Do you get out much. I'm from New York. I get 4 weeks holiday, a retirement plan with company match contribution and I don't work for a fancy fortune 500 company. I think you're watching too much TV or just rabidly anti American. I actually love England, but my English husband won't live there again because salaries are much lower than the UK, and also thingslike utilities for ones home are expensive, as his mother, who lives in Cornwall attests to. Also, hiring people to do work or services generally is infuriating. Here, with the competition, you get what you want and need, when you want and need it.

"We need to get rid of the Americans." I'm afraid her complaints about the British are true. I taught in several schools in China that had British employees. The British were quietly hostile to Americans, viewing them as competitors. In one school, a bunch of British teachers were very hostile to 2 Americans, forcing them to leave.

It is an expat package, as an expat my package is better than local hire, equally we have Americans in London who earn substantially more with much better perks because they are expatriated.... This is normal

International staff are harder to get and are generally more qualified. I work as an American expat in Korea and yes, I am paid much, much more then the korean employees, I have more vacation and sick days as well and I'm not yelled at nearly as often.
