Ugh. Well this is going to break every RSS reader I’ve ever used. Thanks Google.

As long as that’s the case I’d welcome it. There are times when I’m focused on a video and looking away means someone has gotten my attention. There are others when looking away just means I’m watching a video while doing other things. Unfortunately, I think the latter is far more likely on a phone. I’d appreciate this feature much more on my Mac, Xbox, TV, etc.

That would be silly, as it takes place in France.

I’m currently wearing a $7 Zenni pair, and also have a $10 pair. Truth is, in terms of comfort and functionality, they’re no worse than far more expensive glasses I’ve owned previously.
If I had gobs of money to spend, would I still go back to buying more expensive glasses? Probably, but only for all the weird frames I could buy.

Uh, I mean, my glasses are “distance glasses” too, but I generally want to be able to focus as far as possible. Do you mean that when you wear them you have trouble reading up close, or something?

Why do people feel the need to read SO much into these statements? I wasn’t saying anything about buying HTC over Samsung. I was pointing out that smartphones are a complex market, and to claim that “the market has spoken” in favor of particular, individual differences is ridiculous.

Torrents, yeah. And if my connection’s slow I can let an HD video buffer (or a particularly hefty website load). And, obviously this isn’t relevant on iOS, but if there’s a website “countdown to download” timer, it’s nice to be able to go do something else.

The commercial was about the developers making this game. Samsung released the game.

Yes, because that’s the only difference between the two companies’ offerings.

There’s certainly a “butterfly effect” argument to be made, but we’re talking about a little more than conjecture here. Iranians replaced the oppressive Shah with a democratically-elected leader. We overthrew said leader, and put the Shah back in power. Then they overthrew him again, and the Islamist Twelvers filled the power vacuum.
It might be the case that Islamism would’ve gained a foothold in some other way, down the line. But it’s definitely the case that in this universe, we (and I don’t necessarily mean you; I don’t know where you’re from; but I’m from the US) greatly contributed to their rise to power.

The funnier thing is the release of this game implies that the developers in the commercial were Samsung employees. If half of Samsung’s employees can’t be convinced to stop using BlackBerries, that’s a sad state of affairs.

“…with computers currently eclipsing tablets and smartphones.
I think it’s about time we had a term that narrowly refers to “mouse-and-keyboard computers.” I mean, I guess we could ghettoize “PC” to that meaning, but I think “computer” is going to live on.

My point was that this Steam Box seems to be targeting the Mac mini, which might be the least threatening product from Apple re: gaming right now.

3. And the thing is, if Valve is worried about Apple, they should be worrying about the AppleTV, not the Mac, for chrissakes.

$1.46/GB would be a hefty price if you were buying the drive separately on your own, but for an actual manufacturer that’s pretty well par for the course, if not cheaper than average.

The only thing I can think of with the small SSD is that they have to be working on an OnLive type solution. It doesn’t make much sense otherwise. Of course, this whole device doesn’t make much sense, so who knows.

That just sounds like a mountain of awkward. Valve needs to go all-in on something if they want to build a coherent platform. They should either run it on Windows or start majorly incentivizing/requiring devs to build Linux-compatible versions. “Here, buy this SteamBox…it can play some of the games available on Steam! But if you buy products made by other companies instead of the ones made by the makers of Steam, they can play all the games!” is a ludicrous narrative.
