Sofia Vergara may have a Modern Family of her own in the making.

The National Enquirer reports the actress, 40, and her fiancé Nick Loeb are expecting a baby via surrogate.

The Colombian star has a son Manolo, 20, from her first marriage to her teenage sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez.

It has been reported that Sofia chose one of her closest friends to act as a surrogate.

‘Rather than going through the trying process of hiring a stranger to serve as a surrogate, Sofia hand-picked one of her healthiest and closest friends,’ a source told The National Enquirer.

However the publication alleges that Sofia’s hopes were almost dashed when the surrogate was rushed to hospital late last month after suffering symptoms of a miscarriage.

‘Sofia’s surrogate had developed pain and went to the hospital, fearing that she was going to have a miscarriage,’ the source claimed.

Sofia and Nick were seen leaving a date night at BOA Steakhouse in West Hollywood on February 22, and reportedly headed straight to hospital from the restaurant after learning the news.

‘After several hours, it was determined that the baby was fine, and so was the surrogate mom,’ the source added. ‘Sofia thanked God that everything was OK.’

The actress was noticeably absent from any celebrations on February 24, the night of the Oscars, claiming at the time that she was sick with the flu.

Sofia had posted an image to her Instagram page that evening which showed her tucked up in bed and wrote alongside it: ‘Watching the Oscars at home so I don’t give everyone the flu haha!’

The star revealed back in August that she was considering expanding her own family with another child.

'I would think about it. I can have more nannies. So it wouldn't be something crazy for me. But I wouldn't have four. Maybe one is fine,' she told Allure magazine.

I had delivery complications and had to be repeatedly resusitated on two separate occasions, during the labor. Luckily. my child and I made it.and he was healthy. There were no surrogates back then. If there were, I might have considered one, as I never risked another pregnancy. For myself, I think giving birth at 40 and caring for an infant (even if you have a nanny) is much different than if you had one when you were in your early twenties.

A surrogate? Is she really that vain to put her body through pregnancy?! I hope there is a justified reason. If not, sad times, what is happening to the world?!

Why do such a high proportion of celebrities (including all the reality show z listers) refuse to get pregnant themselves or seem to have all kinds of fertility issues? Why can't they just get on with having a baby like the rest of us - guess they don't get in the magazines without some kind of drama!!

We have no idea why she may use a surrogate. Maybe she (like tens of thousands of women) can't carry a baby, or carry to term, for a number of reasons. Why would someone assume she can, but doesn't Want to? It's all a bit presumptuous and certainly not our business unless She tells the world.

I am tired of hearing about celebrities going the surrogate route. Makes me wonder if these women are so vain they would rather pay someone else to have their child than carry the child themselves. This is getting so stupid. apparantly you can buy babies now too.
