Leadership

Will Crouch

Will is the President and co-founder of 80,000 Hours. In November 2009, he co-founded Giving What We Can, and is a Trustee of the Centre for Effective Altruism. His research in ethics at the University of Oxford helped develop the grounding for both organisations. He is a Fulbright scholar studying at New York University.

Ben Todd

Ben worked with Will to found 80,000 Hours and now leads the organisation as Executive Director. This involves forming group strategy, managing the team and directing our research efforts. Ben became Executive Director at the founding of the organisation in October 2011, and the first full-time staff member in July 2012 after graduating from Oxford with 1st Class Honors in a Masters in Physics and Philosophy.

Richard Batty

Product manager

A recent graduate from Oxford University, Richard brings his together his interests in people, technology, and doing good to manage our website.

Robbie Shade

Lead developer

Robbie Shade helped found 80,000 hours whilst doing his PhD in Robotics at Oxford University. As our lead developer he has been the engine behind the 80000hours.org website. He is now applying his skills at Google as a software engineer, and will donate some of his earnings to the most cost effective charities.

Seb Farquhar

Message

Seb loves breaking ideas down and communicating them. Having just graduated from Oxford, he is developing our content and researching global prioritisation before going to work as a consultant at McKinsey and donate some of his earnings to the best charities.

Niel Bowerman

Communications manager

Before working at 80,000 Hours, Niel was a member of President Obama’s Energy and Environment Policy Team, and was climate science advisor to the Office of the President of the Maldives. Niel was named a “Young Global Shaper” by the World Economic Forum.

Jake Nebel

Head of the Princeton Chapter

As a philosophy student and former anti-nuclear campaigner, Jake is most concerned with finding ways to prevent harm to future generations

Abbie Taylor

Head of the Oxford Chapter

Abbie is a Medical student at Oxford University and organises the 80,000 Hours events in Oxford.

Ilan Fischer

Head of the Yale Chapter

Executive Director of Effective animal activism and Yale chapter head. Inspired by the work of Peter Singer, Ilan is a student of philosophy and has done a lot of research and campaigning for animal welfare. While working for 80,000 Hours, he founded Effective Animal Activism - the world’s first charity evaluator for animal welfare charities.

Rob Wiblin

Rob graduated top of his year in Applied Economics from the Australian National University, and has worked as a research economist in several Australian Government agencies including the Productivity Commission.
