A decisive battle on the global freedom of the Internet

The World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT), hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is meeting these days (3-14/12) in Dubai to discuss and modify the International Telecommunications Regulations (ITRs) to allow UN member states to control content on the Internet, censoring the Internet, control over the information of private individuals etc. These modifications to the ITRs, that a number of states require, will change the existing internet’s architecture, operations, content and security. That will affect how people all over the world will use the Internet.

The state of Israel, with the assistance of ISOC-IL, filed a contribution to oppose those modifications in order to try and keep the Internet as we know it today - open, transparent and allows enterprise and free trade.
