Liverpool wait in wings as former Red Alonso ponders new deal at Bernabeu

Liverpool are ready to pounce if Xabi Alonso decides against extending his current deal at Real Madrid.

Alonso was a lynchpin in a Reds side which included the likes of Javier Mascherano, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt, and has gone on to dazzle in the centre of Real’s midfield.

But the 31-year-old has yet to respond to the Spanish champions’ desire to extend his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to reports in Spain.

With boss Jose Mourinho widely tipped to leave the club in summer, Alonso may decide against pledging his future to Real beyond his contract’s expiration in 2014.

Real, who are also interested in capturing Tottenham winger Gareth Bale in summer, are eager to keep hold of Alonso.

Liverpool have made enquiries in recent months over the Spaniard’s availability, according to TakSport.

He is definitely better than some midfield players we bought. His passing is super and he scores and is in control of the midfield. He loves Liverpool. Come back home to the soil of Liverpool. Retire here with glory and love from the fans.

There are currently a lot of rumours going around linking us to players like Ashley Williams and Alonso however both players, as much as I would like to see them in a red shirt next season, do not fit the bill to the transfer policy that FSG are rolling out so these articles are just dead end rumours.

His wages is equal to SG + LS wages, cant see this happen... But once a red forever a red.. Done us reds proud always... Although Lucas is a beast and has improved in leaps and bounces, but i will still take this guy in his position... #ONEXABI

Unlike the manc planks creaming over the return of Ronaldo to old toilet, Liverpool fans see the bigger oicture and that both parties have moved on in seprate ways and we understand this isn't going to happen. Having said that I wish the best for Alonso, he was a fantastic player for us at a time when we had a fantastic team.

He will be 33 in 2014 so will probably sign the extension!

YES! He's a true Red who still misses those good old days at Anfield.

A very tough decision for him. Real Madrid with good weather, good food, culture, well paid, successful team, a domestic cup final, champions league football and an internationally recognised top top coach or Liverpool. Not difficult really is it?

It would be awesome. But can't see it.
