Benitez ready to antagonise Terry further by leaving Chelsea defender out of United Cup tie

John Terry is likely to have to accept sitting out another major game as Rafa Benitez makes a late decision on whether to play Chelsea's club captain in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final at Manchester United.

Interim boss Benitez has used Terry carefully since a knee injury and wants him fit for the Premier League run-in, when finishing in the top four remains more important than retaining the FA Cup.

Big call: John Terry may have to settle for place on the bench again

Big call: John Terry may have to settle for place on the bench again

There are concerns that playing two games in four days - Chelsea face Steaua Bucharest on Thursday - may affect Terry, but he wants to play, sparking fresh speculation over his relationship with the boss. Although Terry questioned Benitez in an inquest into the 2-0 defeat by Manchester City, Benitez considers such clashes as normal.

Other than resting Terry, Benitez is likely to field a stronger side as he takes on his old foe, Sir Alex Ferguson. He will be wary of facing United after their defeat by Real Madrid but, when asked if he would be sharing a glass of wine with the United boss after the tie, Benitez replied: 'I don't drink wine.'

The breakdown in their relationship reached its nadir in 2008-09, when a Liverpool side managed by Benitez finished second to United after beating them 4-1 at Old Trafford.

Put your money on utd. Benitez really is a terrible coach. I can stomach poor football when your winning. (JUST ABOUT!!) but poor losing football is unacceptable from the European champions and that's what benitez has given us for 7 months. Go now and don't ever come back.

I would play JT as FA Cup bigger than Europa and with our excellent record in FA Cup in recent years we should try to maintain that even against the 12 men of United who won last FA Cup such a long time ago.

If he does this and it doesn't pay off - trophy-less Chelsea will have no choice but to axe him on Monday. They've made larger pay-offs than 3 months before. Going into this season Chelsea were up for the Community Shield, Super Cup, Premier League, League Cup, Champions League (now Europa League), Club World Cup and FA Cup, now they're looking like winning none of them. Thats unacceptable for any team, changed coach or not.

I am a football fan who likes to watch good games . Of course I support a team . But for me John Terry is a legend as well as Frank Lampard and Asley Cole . The three Legends needs great Respect whatever be your team . They have worked hard to achieve what they have and any Cups they have won is the result of their hard working . John Terry is not a bully but it is his motivation that makes him as such . He reads the games and always confident but obviously he cant tackle all the balls . He never got rid of previous managers but please if there is any blame it goes only to the owner . Had R A not got rid of J Mourino , Chelsea would have won more Cups . Dont blame Terry and others for the Owners fault. As a M United fan I can say that Terry is a legend for Chelsea . Prove me wrong !
