Blow for United as agent tells Ronaldo to put Madrid exit on hold

Cristiano Ronaldo has been advised by his agent Jorge Mendes to stay at Real Madrid for another season.

Ronaldo has only two years left on his contract at the Bernabeu after this season and is considering leaving Spain, with both French club PSG and his former club Manchester United both interested.

However the 28-year-old has been told by his friend and advisor Mendes that he would be best served staying at the Bernabeu for another year and then taking his pick of clubs across Europe.

Much will depend on whether coach Jose Mourinho stays at Real beyond this season. Mourinho is also a target for PSG, though he is known to prefer a move to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford in the long term.

Ronaldo was clearly touched by the affection he received from the Old Trafford faithful last week, which remained even after the winger scored the goal that sent United crashing out of the Champions League.

And earlier this week, Real director Emilio Butragueno offered no obvious reason for optimism about United's chances of getting the 2008 World Player of the Year back.

'Cristiano is under contract and we are very happy with him,' he said. 'We are delighted he is at Madrid because he is a fantastic professional and very ambitious in a positive way.

'His contribution to the team and the club has been amazing since he arrived. We are very grateful he came to us and are lucky he plays for Real Madrid.'

Its about time that Madrid and Barca know what it feels like to have speculation over one of their better players. Next should be United players coming out and saying 'he's being held like a prisoner at Madrid'. Give them a taste of their own filthy medicine

Personally I think he should stay at Madrid until his contract ends he is more than capable of becoming all time top scorer and what a way to leave then.

United are not the same team they use to be. Next Liverpool in the making. When you look at the team they are fielding now to that of 10 years ago United seem to be a shadow of their late selves. Van has kept them competing so far but now with a dip in form it will make for an interesting end to the season. CFC - CFC , Chorley, United Kingdom, 13/3/2013 14:02_______ So what does that say about the standard of the other 17 teams no doubt including the team you support. You wouldn't want to be seen to be impartial with your criticism would you [as well as a lil bit bitter]

Why would Ronaldo go from driving a Ferrari (Real Madrid) step back down to a (Ford Focus)? Regardless, no world class player returns to their old club unless they are towards the end of their career... And let's be honest Utd are the perfect club for that considering all the 'old' players they currently have ;)

Aint no blow to us, if Manchester United went for Ronaldo we'll get Ronaldo. Ronnie loves United and would jump at the chance to return home. Rooney on the other hand is going nowhere, £20m wouldnt touch Rooney and not even £80m would tempt United into selling.

This is not true... How do I know? Logic. Why would his agent who makes a certain percentage from his transfer want him to wait a year when there will only be one year left on his current contract and so would go for less money as compared to of there were 2 years left on a contract. It doesn't make commercial sense for the agent to advise him to stay. Looks like DM are telling porkies again.
