Caution to the wind in Munich as Wenger takes gung-ho Gunners gamble

Arsene Wenger is planning a massive gamble on Wednesday but admits he could do with a dose of Bayern Munich complacency if Arsenal are to produce one of the great Champions League turnarounds.

Wenger's men trail 3-1 after a horror show at the Emirates in the first leg, but the Frenchman said: 'We are not resigned to going out. We will go to Munich and have a go.'

Arsenal need to score at least three times and he is praying last year's beaten finalists think the tie is over.

'Subconsciously they think they are through,' said Wenger.

'And we have to subconsciously play on that and believe we can do it. The only way we can do that is go from the start.'

It means the meticulous Wenger is planning to throw away the tactics sheet and be gung-ho from the first whistle.

'Bayern have such an advantage that we need a goal,' he said. 'If we keep it tight from the start they will always think we have to score three.

'That won't do. We have to try to gamble a little bit and to go into the game in a very positive mood to get them a bit insecure. I don't think we can be cautious.'

Twelve months ago Arsenal almost managed to overturn a 4-0 first-leg deficit against Milan - they won the return 3-0 - and Wenger said: 'We can use that. There have been a few wins by Arsenal in the Champions League that we are proud of.

'The chance is small - but the impossible is possible.'

Robbie, Liverpool.....your probably nearer the reality than me, I was just dreaming, because it's what I would do, put all my eggs in one basket, start with all the players I mentioned and hope that Bayern maybe a bit jaded after playing this weekend,a little complacent and also a couple of quick goals(essential) I will keep on dreaming the impossible!

- Frankie1 , Carlisle, United Kingdom, >>He could start with a midfield of RosickyCarzola and Wilshere with Podolski Giroud and Walcott up front<< nice pic, but if you look at the bench , we don't have any class players to change the game if required. Can't risk podolski & giroud starting at first. I am sure AW is gona make Cazorla play as winger(as usual not letting them play in their natural position) Giroud - cazorla,wilshere,walcott- diaby, arteta - coquelin,tv,mert, sagna - shzczesni. AW will use podolski(walcott), rosicky (diaby- gets tiered qucik, injury prone), wiltshere will play deep midfield when rosicky comes in. still got ramsey, ghervino, oxy on bench. I am not sure if Giroud is gona do well, if he doesn't we r doomed coz we need early goals. Podolski(giroud) along with cazorla, walcott, rosicky, wiltshere, arteta can still be good.

That's ok but what does he mean by a gamble? He could start with a midfield of RosickyCarzola and Wilshere with Podolski Giroud and Walcott up front and what about Sagna alongside Big Merts with Jenkinson at right back(Sagna's best game this season was in central defence) none of this will happen of course but it would represent their best attacking option and they have nothing to lose. Meanwhile we can only dream and remember the game against Milan and hope!
