Wojciech Szczesny wants to stay at Arsenal to fight for his place next season, even though the Poland keeper has grown frustrated with the training regime at the club.

Manager Arsene Wenger, who dropped Szczesny for Wednesday's Champions League game at Bayern Munich, said the 22-year-old needed a 'mental break'.

But it is understood that Szczesny has spoken to Wenger about issues that he believes will make him a better keeper.

The Pole is understood to share the frustrations of Wenger about his form but feels he needs to change his preparation to improve.

Arsenal would be reluctant to let him go because they believe he will become a great keeper, but Szczesny is unlikely to sign a new contract while his position is under threat.

The club are scouting for a replacement keeper, with Liverpool's Pepe Reina under consideration.

Another Bendtner. Didn't he claim a couple of years ago, he'd be the best keeper in the world. He must have a bad back, having spent so much time with his head up his own backside.

The author of this flight of fancy has clearly got the keeper mixed up with Chesney Hawkes and how his career went down the pan. Must do better DM.

Quotes galore. Is this another exclusive? The fact is, he is a very young keeper. Wenger also does not want to lose Fabianski who will leave if there is a lack of opportunities so Wenger is playing him to keep him. There is nothing wrong with healthy competition now go fathom a story about something else.
