She's usually one of the more smartly dressed stars on the red carpet.

But Kristin Chenoweth appeared to forget a few fashion commandments at a New York City gala on Tuesday night.

The 44-year-old actress wore ripped jeans, a casual canary yellow blouse, black and white blazer and color blocked heels for The Bible Experience, promoting the History Channel's controversial television drama.

The Wicked star was dressed for a stylish day of errands rather than a red carpet event as she made her way down the press line.

Her blonde hair was swept back into a low ponytail and pink lipstick noticeabley lashed across her lips as she flashed a charming smile.

Also in attendance were Sami Gayle, Lenay Dunn, Carol Alt, Della Reese, actress and producer Roma Downey and husband, series producer and co-creator with Roma, Mark Burnett.

Kristin was undoubtedly thrilled to be there and shared her excitement on Twitter.

'Come to #thebible exhibit on 14rh street NYC. Free!' she urged her 748,000-plus followers.

The week-long event, held at The Highline Building in Manhattan, features photography, artifacts and artwork in promotion of the controversial television drama.

The show has been a surprise hit in the ratings, with the religious mini-series attracting 13.1 million viewers on Wednesday - topping television leviathan American Idol's 12.8 million viewers.

But last Sunday evening's episode of the hit series threw up an awkward coincidence and when viewers noticed that Satan bore a remarkable resemblance to President Obama.

Right-wing commentator and radio-host Glenn Beck first pointed out the eerie similarity on Saturday, tweeting, 'Anyone else think the Devil in #TheBible Sunday on History Channel looks exactly like That Guy?'

Both the History Channel and the executive producers of The Bible denied any deliberate link between Satan and Mr Obama.

On Monday Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, executive producers of 'The Bible', said: 'This is utter nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzaani (sic), is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor.

The resemblance between Moroccan actor Mehdi Ouazzani (left) and President Obama left some viewers of The Bible taking to Twitter to express their amazement

Resemblance?Moroccan actor Mehdi Ouazzani (left) and President Obama were compared by some viewrs of the series

'He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics - including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our President.'

The History Channel also released a statement. That read:  'HISTORY channel has the highest respect for President Obama.

'The series was produced with an international and diverse cast of respected actors. It's unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. HISTORY's 'The Bible' is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history.'

The continuing finds in the Middle East show that what has been written in the Bible IS in fact historical facts. While the New Testament is more on the life and times of Jesus Christ and open to discussion the "facts" still remain out there.... BION! Robert Ripley.......

Perhaps, because the Bible is the oldest surviving book, begun 3,000 years ago as a record of man's ideas and spiritual thought. I think the fact that it survived all that history is impressive, but perhaps the cooking channel - filled with facts about cooking - would be more to your liking!
