After dropping the pounds for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew McConaughey is finally getting back to his buff self.

The 43-year-old actor showed off his dapper looks as he suited up to film scenes for his upcoming TV show in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday.

To portray his role as detective Rust Cohle in True Detectives, he donned a charcoal coloured blazer that fit like a glove.

Beneath the jacket was a light grey button-down blouse and chocolate brown tie, teamed with a pair of dark brown trousers.

Pulling the outfit together was a black leather belt and matching dress shoes to boot.

Matthew appears to have gotten a little bit of colour since, showing off a light tan as he worked on scenes with Woody Harrelson.

Another shot showed him deep in focus, reading a notebook of some sort, as he stood in the grassy landscape.

And the actor made sure to stay hydrated in the southern heat, keeping a water bottle by his side between takes.

The Magic Mike star vowed to take a slow approach to gaining the weight back after his 38 pound slim-down to reach his weight goal of 135 pounds to portray an HIV positive drug smuggler Ron Woodroof.

But since the film wrapped in January, he's certainly made progress to get back to his healthy self for his new project.

Woody also stars as a detective in the forthcoming TV program, playing the role of Martin Hart.

True Detectives shows the two men becoming involved in a 17-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana.

I hate to say this, but he does not look well after the dramatic weight loss for the role. His beautiful wife has suffered from childbirth and I wish her the best and speediest recovery!!!

Guys have patience! The Dallas Buyers Club just ended filming a few months ago! He lost weight quite quickly for the movie but regaining it ALL back in the same amount of time is probably not the best idea either. Remember Christian Bale? Lost a lot of weight but eventually got back to his original size. Give it time! :)

Personally, I still think he needs to gain at least another stone before he looks as good as he used to.

I think his drastic weight loss took a toll on him. I was never gaga over him but he was attractive but not now. His neck looks really long and body disproportionate. Too bad. I hope hello is healthy despite the change in appearance.

Wow, that huge weight loss and regain has destroyed his face. And what's with his nose? It looks like its grown!

He isn't quite back to normal, still a bit gaunt, especailly about the face.

Pics of Matthew McConaughey either appear when it's spring and he's hitting the beach shirtless, he's usually the first indicator forget the daffodils in your garden, when he's got some major movie coming out, becomes a father for another time or if he's the flavour of the month. There weren't many pictures of him around before he started filming that movie. That may be because he already was getting old and less hot and the paps knew, the producers knew and he knew - and I somehow guess that this was the reason why he chose to take that role and have a shot at an oscar.
