She is known for her elegant and sometimes quirky attire on the red-carpet.

But in her down time Dakota Fanning is just like any other teenager girl her age.

The 19-year-old showed off her very casual style as she indulged in a day of pampering with her mother Heather on Friday.

Make-up free, the young star wore a pair of rolled-up baggy jeans, a black sweater and a leather motorcycle jacket as the duo headed to a nail salon in Toluca Lake.

The teenager also wore a pair of flip-flops in order for her pedicure to dry and a brown suede satchel rounded out the blonde starlet's pared down look.

Mother and daughter were having a great time catching up on some girly gossip as they had their finger and toenails painted.

Dakota even treated her mother to the pampering session and was seen handing her some cash to tip her manicurist.

The actress recently discussed her style in an interview with Glamour magazine.

She said that despite her fabulous attire on the red-carpet, she is more often dressed in far less glamorous clothes day-to-day.

'It’s really fun when you’re getting dressed for something,' Dakota said.

'It’s not when you’re in the rain with an umbrella and trying to carry a case of water. "Yep, that’s me, alone, coming from Duane Reade [the drug store]. I’m not wearing a bra. Deal with it."'

Dakota definitely looks out for, and up to, her 14-year-old sister Elle, who will soon play the Princess Aurora opposite Angelina Jolie's Maleficent.

'She’s very uninhibited and will try pretty much anything,' said the blonde starlet.

'Even the way she dresses — she dresses totally for herself. She risks being made fun of…by me, which I sometimes do, because I’m an older sister! But I totally admire her and think she’s very cool.'

The Coraline star also opened up about being single, confessing that she doesn't really date.

Dakota said, 'I have a weird vision of relationships because my parents have known each other since second grade, and they got married right out of college. I’ve always thought that’s what it’s supposed to be like, and if it’s not, then I don’t want to waste my time on it.

'Even when I was 14, I was like, "I’m not gonna marry this person. What’s the point of doing it?" It’s not me being naive. I just know what it’s supposed to be like. And I think until I feel that, I cannot be bothered.'

Though she was once rumoured to have dated fellow child stars Tyler James Williams and Freddie Highmore, Fanning has never publicly dated anyone.

According to Deadline, Fanning was just cast as Kevin Kline‘s teenage girlfriend in the Errol Flynn biopic The Last Of Robin Hood.

Dakota is about to dye her trademark locks dark brown for her next role in the environmentalist drama Night Moves, due out September 20, with Jesse Eisenberg.

She'll also take the title role in Richard Laxton’s Effie in May.

I really like her as an actress but she seems to be fading from the limelight. Hope she makes more movies soon or her sister will take over as the leading fanning... she certainly has a better attitude than dakota who seems slightly boring compared to elle.

Very down to earth and absolute beautiful person. So calm and collected for the life she is in. So proud.

And why not her mother treating her to a manicure DM? Just because she's a star and might be richer does not mean she is presumably the one paying...Gosh! Her mother was taking care of her before she became famous

I love Dakota! It's not often these days to see a young girl so unaffected by fame, she just seems so down to earth and natural
