The actress and mother of six-year-old Suri Cruise decided to take a day for her other roles as friend and designer.
On a windy Friday afternoon, Katie Holmes headed out with design partner Jeanne Yang, with whom she runs the clothing line Holmes & Yang.
Katie was spotted walking with bags and books in hand, the apple red of the book’s binding offering the only pop of colour to her outfit.

Looking effortlessly casual, the 34-year-old tied a black-lined navy trench coat over a nude sweater.
As one who has started several denim trends, most notably boyfriend jeans, it seems that Katie might be starting yet another trouser trend.
She wore light blue flared jeans, and just this past Sunday donned a more exaggerated flared leg.
This time, she topped the trouser off with a caramel-toned brown boot and carried a simple black tote.

Later in the day, Katie spent some time with another friend at Sbarro, an Italian restaurant, and had a Museum of Modern Art bag in hand – perhaps she was looking for a design muse for her next line for Holmes & Yang.
That's not where the searching ended, though.
Apparently, after Miss Holmes hugged her unnamed friend goodbye, she searched for her car, which was nowhere to be found.

The former Dawson’s Creek star waited patiently for 15 minutes until the car arrived.
With no news of Katie’s next acting projects, rumours have been swirling that she might take after her father and brother.
In a conversation with Allure magazine, she revealed: ‘Well, my brother and father are attorneys, and – we’ll see.
‘I like the practical thinking of attorneys.’
