Mariah Carey whizzes home to read twins a bedtime story after American Idol duties... and is still camera-ready in glamorous dress

She went through a roller coaster of emotions on Wednesday night’s American Idol, surely leaving her drained and tired.
But doting mother Mariah Carey made sure she was home in time to put her little children to bed.
The talent show panelist rushed back to her Los Angeles pad in order to see her twins Monroe and Moroccan before they hit the sack for the night, but she didn’t look like the average working mother.

The singer could be seen in her son and daughter’s room, sitting on the floor in a glamorous maxi gown which she had earlier worn for her prime time TV appearance.
Mariah looked thrilled to be in the presence of her loved ones as she donned the halter neck black number with gold embellishments all over.
The blonde didn’t look frazzled one bit as her locks were still poker straight and her strappy high heels shoes remained firmly attached to her feet.

Mariah hadn’t even had the opportunity to remove her metallic arm cuff and hoop earrings before joining her kids for a bedtime story.
But it all seemed worth it for the star who is married to actor and presenter Nick Cannon.
Although the show ends at around 10pm in the United States, Mariah would have been rushing out of the building at 7pm in California to catch her children before the nodded off.
American Idol needs to be filmed earlier on the West Coast so that it can be streamed live on the East Coast which is three hours ahead of her time zone.
She posted alongside a cute image via Twitter on Thursday: ‘after the show last night: ) rushed home to put #dembabies to sleep!’

The following day she continued to spend time with her loved ones, enjoying some animated films before she had to shoot off for another day at work with fellow judges Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban.
She told her nearly 10 million followers on the micro-blogging website: ‘Having a marathon of Shrek 1,2,3 & forever after with RocStar, he just can't let it go!’
It wasn’t only her offspring who she showed some love for after recording her popular programme.

Mariah was posting about her devoted fans, who she affectionately calls her Lambs.
After giving a shout-out to her music lovers during filming someone in the crowd held up a huge stuffed baby sheep toy, which she appeared to take home with her.
She said on the micro-blogging website as she shared a snap with the soft item in her hand as she climbed into her vehicle: ‘The lambs are always in my heart #L4L.’
