Octomom investigated for welfare fraud after earning 'more than minimum amount' required to qualify

She signed up for welfare in January after spending her savings on a trip to rehab.
But now it appears Nadya 'Octomom' Suleman may have earned more money than she's letting on.
According to TMZ, the infamous single mother of octuplets is collecting welfare for her and her 14 children despite making more than the minimum amount required to qualify for financial assistance.
Being investigated: Nadya 'Octomom' Suleman is said to have earned more than she let on and is being investigated for welfare fraud
The 37-year-old signed up for welfare earlier this year and has been receiving $1,800 a month for food, $1,000 for emergency cash, as well as medical benefits to help with mental heath and dental issues.
But Nadya is only eligible for the support if she brought in less than $119,000 in a calendar year, and according to TMZ, authorities believe she may have made over $200, 000.
The L.A. County Dept. of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation has started calling her various employers from the past year to figure out exactly how much the television personality has earned, sources told the website.

The investigation includes combing through bank statements, canceled checks and wire transfer receipts, as well as asking her employers who else she may have worked for.
According to the website, employers have handed over a few names that authorities are looking into.
If she is found guilty of committing welfare fraud, she could face three or more years in prison.

Following her initial stardom for being the mother of only the second set of octuplets to be born alive in the United States, Nadya made a living from media opportunities.
However, she soon struggled to keep up with her £6,000 per month family costs.
Previously on the verge of bankruptcy, Octomom was facing homelessness after struggling with mortgage payments on her old house for 18 months.
Desperate measures: Nadya made an adult film to make enough money to feed her 14 children
The adult film star initially resorted to welfare last March, which she claimed until July when her film deal meant she was able to support herself.
The proceeds of her adult film Octomom: Home Alone, also meant she was able to purchase a new property for her brood - a six bedroom, 5,000 square foot properly in Palmdale, California.
But she checked into rehab in California in October, prompting a string of reports about her health.
'I chose to seek treatment after consulting with my manager regarding my recent use of Xanax, which was prescribed by my physician for panic attacks,' Suleman said in a statement at the time.
Following her adult movie deal Octomom also reportedly employed a team of three nannies, and two friends to help look after her children - dividing up duties including transporting the massive brood to and from school.
