Victoria Beckham will not be performing with the Spice Girls again and the rest of the band are on the hunt for her replacement, it has been claimed.

The fashion designer has quit the band and the four remaining singers, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Melanie Chrisholm are planning a TV show to hunt for the fifth member, The Sunday Mirror claims.

A spokesperson for Victoria confirmed that the mother-of-four would not be performing again and told MailOnline: 'Victoria has made no secret of the fact her singing days are over, with a hugely successful business and a growing family, she loved her time as a spice girl and will always wish the other girls well in whatever they choose to do.'

The quintet reformed for a stellar performance at the Olympics closing ceremony and the others, particularly Geri, are said to be keen to continue performing.

A source told the Sunday People: 'The girls, particularly Geri, are think there is so much more that they can achieve, and they know that their fans still want to see them perform. In an ideal world Victoria would be part of their plan, but she just won’t budge.'

They added: 'It is a dream of Geri's to get the girls back together for  good tour, a bit like Take That have done it.

'She would give anything for this to all work out. She has spoken to TV production companies about how it would work and has got very excited. Things are gradually getting further down the line.'

A spokesperson for the band was unavailable for comment on Sunday.

A source close to the band told MailOnline that the girls had said that if they carried on without Victoria they would not recruit a new member.

Mel C denied claims by the tweeting: 'It seems there are some very peculiar stories in the press today. I haven't seen one that's true yet!'

Geri, Mel B and Mel C all have experience acting as judges on TV shows.

Ginger Spice appeared as a judge on Popstars The Rivals in 2003 when Girls Aloud was formed and she has appeared on the X Factor as a guest judge.

Mel B has just signed a deal to appear on America's Got Talent and Australia's Got Talent after impressing Simon Cowell.

The band shot to fame in 1996 after their debut song Wannabe topped the charts in over 30 countries.

Geri left the band in 1998 and the foursome carried on until 2000 before breaking up.

In 2007 the girls reformed for a world tour and they released a new single.

Since, then Victoria has been busy building her successful fashion empire and with four children with husband David, she juggles a hectic schedule.

If Posh isn't in the Spice Girls, they'll have lost one of their best singers... Oh wait.... Never mind, my bad.

Victoria is successful but the rest of them are desperate to cling on to the scraps of fame they have left. It's quite sad!

I love Victoria (and yes she did sing live last time they toured) but she didn't have the best voice, I think the band would still work without her. They don't need a replacement, i'll rather just the four of them did something.

I don't recall her ever being able to sing. She was just kind of the one that stood around and made poses.

The others need to get a life as well. The Spice girl's were great but they need to quit while people still have fond memories of them.

just leave it alone... you were great in the 90's and that's where it should stay.

I think the lot of them should turn it in ! Just because it reminds you of when you were young doesn't mean it was ever any good !
