Princess Caroline of Monaco is now a grandmother.

The fiancee of her eldest son's fiancée, Colombian heiress Tatiana Santo Domingo, 29, gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday. The family are yet to announce the newborn's name.

The baby's father, Andrea Casiraghi, 28, is the nephew of Monaco's ruling sovereign, Prince Albert II. Albert is the son of late American film star Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III.

The Monaco palace said Princess Caroline is overjoyed by the newest addition to the jet set royal family.

According to Hello magazine, the new baby will be third in line to the throne, behind Andrea (who currently has no title) and Princess Caroline, who is first.

This line of succession would change if reigning monarch Prince Albert and his wife Charlene were to  welcome a child before Andrea and Tatiana marry.

A royal birth is usually greeted with fanfare in Monaco, and will certainly be baptised. Already, Andrea's sister, Charlotte has been tipped to be godmother.

The fact that the couple were expecting was never officially announced, though rumours were confirmed in November when Tatiana was spotted with a sizeable bump.

Tatiana and Andrea, who announced their engagement in July last year, are relatively publicity-shy.

Explaining why she shuns photographer's attention, Tatiana once said: 'I don't like being photographed. That's why I always look pained.'

Tatiana is the daughter of the late Julio Santo Domingo, named by Forbes in 2011 as the second richest man in Colombia, and Vera Rechulski , a former Brazilian socialite from Sao Paolo currently living in Paris.

They have known each other for eight years and met while studying at the same school in Paris.

No date has been fixed for the royal wedding but it is understood it will take place this year.

Andrea is the son of the late Stefano Casiraghi, the second husband of Caroline, who died in a boating accident off Monte Carlo in 1990.

The Monaco princes’ lives are not without recent controversy.

In December 2011, Andrea was stopped by Police for speeding at 170 mph. His Audi 6 was immobilised, his driving license seized and he had to return to Paris by train.

In February last year his younger brother Pierre, 25, allegedly got into a fight with a stranger at an exclusive New York nightclub because he was ‘jealous’ of him.

Pierre was punched and sent flying into a table on the other side of the room, landing with blood pouring from his face.

‘Pierre’s face looked broken, with deep cuts and blood everywhere,’ said one witness. ‘He looked like he needed plastic surgery'.

French media have dubbed Andrea as an 'enfant terrible' and the 'angel rebel'.

In 1999 he was included on the 50 most beautiful people list. Four years later, he was voted the most stylish royal man by readers of Hello magazine, and in 2008, Forbes placed him tenth on its '20 Hottest Young Royals' list.

In 2011, Tatiana Santo Domingo launched the Muzungu Sisters fashion venture in partnership with Dana Alikhani.

Both Tatiana and Lauren Santo Domingo, the 36-year-old co-founder of ModaOperandi, a Vogue contributing editor and married to Tatiana's half-uncle, are prominent socialites in New York.

Tatiana is internationally known for her unique fashion sense, said to vary from the elegant to the vintage and boho chic. She has cited Loulou de la Falaise as her style guru.

She was included in Vanity Fair's 2010 international best dressed list.

Handsome males in the royal family, but what a trashy life they had with all these women. Ridiculous article.

Seems his taking a page from his uncle's book, but at least he's engaged to the mother. That was more than his uncle ever managed.

This child is not illegetimate, they are engaged to be married, as with Albert, he was never engaged with the women he cavorted with,,not same scenario. - Peanut, sunnyside up, United States ***************** Sweetie, seriously. Look up 'illegitimate' in the dictionary. It means a child born 'out of wedlock'. Which they are ... sheesh.

"The fiancee of her eldest son's fiancee...." That would be her eldest son, wouldn't it?

It's rather confusing, but if the parents of illegitimate child marries with the approval of Prince Albert, then the child is no longer considered illegitimate. If they marry without approval, the child is denied rights of succession. Even with the birth of this child, Princess Caroline is next in line, until and unless Albert and his wife have a child. Two of Princess Stephanie's children are in line because she married their father in an approved marriage. Her youngest child, however, is not in line. If Prince Albert does not produce a natural heir during his marriage, he can adopt...and he can adopt one of his nephews to be his heir! The line of succession right now is Caroline, Andrea, Pierre, Charlotte, Princess Alexandra, Princess Stephanie, Louis Ducruet, Pauline Ducruet.

She is not married to the father of her child, therefore the child is illegitimate in the eyes of the law. Have never figured out why after several years of dating she couldn't wait to have a child. As for being considered Vanity Fair's 2010 international best dressed list, I don't see it in the pictures you chose to use for this article.
