She jetted out of Australia on Tuesday after her highly-publicised tour of the country with her wife Portia de Rossi.

And it appears Ellen DeGeneres plans to return - for good.

The 55-year-old talk show host told a crowd in Melbourne before her flight that she would consider living in the Land Down Under once she retires from television.

'I shouldn't put it out there but I can see us living here one day,' Ellen told a packed audience of 3,000 people who had gathered to watch a taping of The Ellen Degeneres Show.

'I'm moving here, it's so beautiful,' added the television personality, who was accompanied by her wife and mother Betty on the trip.

The star has said a number of times that visiting the country has been a lifelong dream, and she once again echoed the sentiment.

'I've wanted to come to Australia for a long, long time, before meeting Portia,' Ellen said of her wife, who hails from Melbourne.

Ellen has been spending time in Melbourne after visiting Sydney earlier this week to film segments for her show.

Sydney resident Russell Crowe was one of her guests, and he gave Ellen two kangaroo-hide cattle whips so she could catch 'some brumbies', or wild horses, in the country's outback.

Ellen and Portia, 40, also paid a visit to the Arrested Development star's old school, Melbourne Girls Grammar, on Monday where they spent two hours filming.

The couple were snapped jetting out of Australia on Tuesday after a whirlwind week in the country.

The funny woman took to her Twitter page to express how much she enjoyed their stay in Australia, writing:

'I had heard Aussies were incredible people, but this week I experienced it for myself. Thank you, Australia. I'm glad I married one of you.'

Successful trip: Ellen thanked the people of Australia with a tweet on Tuesday, adding 'I'm glad I married on of you'

Ellen looked far healthier as she walked hand-in-hand with Portia through Melbourne airport after she was forced to postpone her trip last week due to the flu.

The comedian was casual in light grey trousers and a loose-fitting white T-shirt, adding a whimsical touch with striped socks.

Her partner was more dressed-up in skinny olive green corduroys, boots and a blazer, accessorising with a jaunty fedora.

The REAL letdown of Britain is the weather ~ Take away Austraila's wonderful sunshine and the barbies and they ain't got much. Think about it!

Although Australia is beautiful, it is very expensive to live there (Socialism). I'm sure Ellen can afford it.

Yes, doesn't everyone want to live here!?? I know when I am truly blessed when I live in a comfortable home overlooking the ocean where I can enjoy sunsets over the sea and the fresh clean air, warm climate , pool to splash in to cool down and friendly kind neighbours and workmates :) - Kristina13, Adelaide, 27/3/2013 12:04 I am so jealous! Australia is a great country if you are a white person. Their treatment of aborigines is awful. A friend's daughter lived and worked in Melbourne for a year. As a non-white person, she indicated that there is a lot of racism in Australia and one lady even spitted on her.

Trust Russell Crowe to give an animal advocate two kangaroo-hide cattle whips. He's such a dork.

It¿s a joke that Portia is referred to as an Australian. She was interviewed here and she has the most ridiculous American accent. She couldn¿t even pronounce Melbourne like an Australian! It¿s just farcical that many Australians including Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Keith Urban, just to name a few have been over there for years have done blockbuster movies and retain their Australian accents. Portia sounds ridiculous! and don¿t ever forget she was Mandy Rodgers from Geelong! - sydneyjo, sydney, 27/03/2013 09:20 How ridiculous. Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Hugh Jackman etc left Australia a lot later in life than Portia and therefore retained the accent. Portia moved to America while she was young and therefore would have adopted that accent. She doesn't sound ridiculous at all! My best friend was born in Florida but moved to Birmingham when she was 7 - talking to her now you'd never think she had ever lived in America. It depends on the age you move countries.
