'Apple likes to inhale Cheetos and they can have one Coke a week': Gwyneth Paltrow insists she allows her children the odd junk food treat
|
She made headlines earlier this month when she revealed that she occasionally avoids feeding carbohydrates to her children.
But Gwyneth Paltrow presents a somewhat more balanced picture in her latest newsletter.
The 40-year-old claimed that although she makes sure Apple, eight, and Moses, six, eat healthy meals at home, when the family goes out the star 'loosens way up on the reigns,' allowing her kids to sample more processed fare.
'It's all about balance': Gwyneth Paltrow, pictured in October, reveals in her latest Goop issue that she occasionally allows her children Apple and Moses to eat junk food
The actress revealed in her new Goop issue that she tried to start her kids off on the right foot nutrition-wise, 'but the lure of Oreos and cotton candy outweighed the lure of carrots and hummus.'
'And that's all part of childhood and I love Oreos too, so I completely understand,' she said.
The busy mother said that while she makes sure to feed her children nutritious meals at home, she allows them the occasional treat.
'They love a brown rice stir-fry but they also love their "Coke of the week"', said the blonde. 'My daughter gravitates toward fresh fruit and raw nuts but will inhale a bag of hot Cheetos at the airport.'

'It's all about balance,' added the star.
The star also said she gets creative when she or her family craves something on what she calls the 'restricted food' list.
'I love to find my way around the obstacle. I'm all about finding my way around an obstacle,' said Gwyneth.
The Oscar winner was recently criticised after admitting that she avoids feeding pasta,
bread, or rice to her children because she believes carbohydrates are
bad for them.
Her
decision was based on the fact that everyone in her house - including
husband Chris Martin - is apparently intolerant of gluten, dairy and
chicken’s eggs.
‘Sometimes
when my family is not eating pasta, bread or processed grains like
white rice, we’re left with that specific hunger that comes with
avoiding carbs,' writes Gwyneth in her new cookbook It's All Good, which
is released next month.
The actress devotes an entire chapter to grains but is deeply skeptical about them.
She writes: ‘Every single nutritionist, doctor and health-conscious person I have ever come across . . . seems to concur that (gluten) is tough on the system and many of us are at best intolerant of it and at worst allergic to it.
Dieting couple: Gwyneth says her husband was also found to be allergic to a host of 'surprising' foods
But critics described her as 'foolish,' potentially doing her children harm.
London-based public health nutritionist Yvonne Wake said: ‘I think it’s not a good idea, especially because her children are are thin - I’ve seen pictures of them.
‘Kids need carbohydrate because it gives them glycogen which keeps your brain going.
‘Without it they won’t be able to think straight as their brain won’t be functioning and their thinking patterns will be slow.
Gwyneth has been candid in the past about her exercise and dietary habits, and some believe she is now letting her obsessions filter down to her children.
She has in the past told how she snacks on almonds when she is hungry rather than cave in and have a proper meal.
She spent her twenties on the macrobiotic diet during which time she ate mostly vegetables and beans and chewed her food more thoroughly than usual.
