Hollywood's first lady loses a son-in-law: Meryl Streep’s daughter Mamie Gummer splits from husband Benjamin Walker

When the two met while performing in the spring 2008 production of Les Liasons Dangereuses on Broadway, actor Benjamin Walker cited the big movie hit of the same name to say that Mamie Gummer ‘was the Uma to my Keanu.’

Unfortunately for the pair, Benjamin’s use of the past tense when describing his relationship with Meryl Streep’s daughter is now all too fitting.

Mamie, 29, has split with her Broadway star husband, confirmed by both actors’ spokesperson to Us Weekly on Saturday.

The Side Effects actress’ spokesperson insists that, ‘it’s very amicable,’ however.

The couple engaged in 2009 and wed in July of 2011 at Mamie’s parents’ estate in Connecticut.

Meryl’s eldest daughter has recently been the star of two failed television series - 2012’s Emily Owens, M.D. and 2011’s Off the Map.

Conversely, her husband has seen better results.

The 30-year-old actor has been starring as Brick in the current New York production of Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which had its last showing on Saturday.

During the audition process, the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter actor flew to Paris to read through the script again with his A-list co-star, Scarlett Johansson, who took on the role of Maggie.

In a January interview with New York magazine, Benjamin talked about the trouble he got in during college that he pulls from for character motivation.

‘Don’t trust somebody that don’t have a troubled period,’ he said.

Throughout his interview, Mamie sent him two texts.

‘What, Mamie?’ he joked with the interviewer. ‘She always worries about me in these things, and rightfully so. I don’t have much experience doing it, so I never know when I’m going to sound like an ass.’

Used to like Meryl Streep. However, her comment about Cher's Oscars was very demeaning and arrogant. During her iron lady Oscar acceptance speech, she didn't even mention Margaret Thatcher. Ungrateful and rude. We all know she is far left, however, a little gratitude toward Thatcher won't do her any harm. No class.

When your husband gets a part opposite Scarlett Johansson, I guess it's all over. It won't last though.

Why is this news? I know Meryl has kids but why would we be interested in her daughter's private life? Pfft... slow news day.

Completely off topic but, I had no idea Michael Park was in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Good for him. Fabulous actor!

Hollywood? Um, neither was raised in Hollywood. She was raised in Connecticut. He works in NY and I believe they lived there. Just because they act does not mean they are "Hollywood".

I saw her in a film a couple of weeks ago. She may have got her mum's looks but she got none of her talent.
