Ivanka Trump has opened up about what her billionaire father is like as a grandfather.

The heiress and mother to 20-month-old Arabella Rose, revealed that while Donald Trump Sr is an expert in the boardroom, he is less clued up when it comes to kids.

She explained to Redbook magazine that he 'wouldn’t know what to do' if a child was 'crying or needed a diaper change', but added in his defence that he dotes on his granddaughter 'all the time.'

Donald Trump, 66, whose net worth is $3.2 billion as of March, according to Forbes, has five children, from three different women, who range from 35 to seven years old.

He also has a total of five grandchildren; four from his son Donald Jr and his wife Vanessa and one from his daughter Ivanka and her businessman husband Jared Kushner.

While he is known for being a brash businessman, Mr Trump Sr prides himself on being a devoted family man.

'I've always had a great relationship with my children,' he affirmed on David Letterman's late night talk show last week.

And Ivanka, 31, who is from his first marriage to former Czech model Ivana, backed him up.

'He was always a great father in that he was always there,' she recalled.

She said that her relationship with him today is stronger than ever, especially now that she is involved in the family business and has a role on his NBC reality show The Apprentice.

'If we talked a lot before, we speak 50 times a day now. I spend half the time in his office. Its wild,' the mother-of-one said.

She also devotes much of her time to running her eponymous jewelry and fashion business.

Asked if she suffers from 'mom guilt' as a working mother, Ivanka said that she does everyday.

'Every morning I’m so sad to leave Arabella. But it’s important for me to continue what I’m doing.

'It’s fulfilling to me, and I think it makes me a better mom when I’m home.'

She said that she 'hates' the expression 'working mom' because it implies that a mother who stays at home does not work.

And she admitted that looking after her daughter is 'far more difficult than anything I do in the office.'

While her father is press friendly, Ivanka prefers to protect her private life and carefully selects what information she shares with fans.

'People ask all the time, "Oh, can we take photographs of you and your closet?" No. That feels voyeuristic in a way that I don’t feel comfortable with.

'I’m very active on social media, but you don’t see me tweet a photo of Jared and me lying in bed on Sunday morning.

'I don’t want to see other people lying in bed on a Sunday morning; why would someone want to see me?'

Indeed most of her Twitter pictures feature herself and her daughter Arabella at business events or on holiday.

Over the past week she has uploaded images from trips to the San Diego Zoo and Legoland in California.

'I don’t let people into things that are too private,' she said. Ivanka, her husband and their daughter reside in a ten-bedroom penthouse on New York's Park Avenue.

As a stay at home mother, who had a career for ten years prior to becoming a full-time Mom, I am SO happy to read, "She said that she 'hates' the expression 'working mom' because it implies that a mother who stays at home does not work." THANK YOU! I absolutely agree. Being a stay-at-home Mother is just as hard as a full-time job.

You can accuse Donald of so many things but not as a bad father. He raised his kids well. They're professionals who doesn't live in daddy's money and they work to sustain their lifestyles. You will hardly see them lying in night club's floor or getting caught for DUI. Good for Ivanka also to maintain that strict privacy of her family life. It tells a lot on how Donald as a parent by just looking at his children.

Trump's hair is a monstrosity, this picture doesn't do it justice. Its a savage mismatch of 3 different styles. Does he not look in the mirror & does no one have the guts to say 'Oy, Don your barnets a right mess, you got the dosh go get it sorted out, at least its going grey you ginger mug. Can I have some money?'

Donald Trump has my respect not for amassing a fortune but for the way he raised Ivanka, Don, Jr., and Eric to be respectful, hard-working, and unspoiled adults. They obviously love him as he loves them. I like the whole family.

Of course he wouldn't know what to do with a small child...that's what the hired help is for. - Alyssa, California, United States, 1/4/2013 23:52 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ And anyone who IS a billionaire, who DIDN'T have hired help, would be an idiot - but not in the money-making department, obviously! What's money for if it isn't going to help? I have no idea what's so 'noble' about looking like a wet rag, and rushing around, looking like a 'normal mum' (fat and unkempt, usually, according to these pages...), if they've got the money to NOT look and be like that! Mustifying to me.

I wonder if she will encourage her daughter to get breast implants too.
