Horrific scenes as two are killed when helicopter crashes into Florida mall parking lot

Two people have been killed in a helicopter that crashed after departing an executive airport in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials say the Robinson R44 helicopter went down on Wednesday afternoon about two miles east of Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport.

It crashed in a parking lot and burst into flames.

'So right when I run out, I hear a second crash, a bigger crash on the palm trees and I hear an explosion,' eye-witness Valerie Senior told WPLG-TV.

'All the people in the warehouse were helping out, trying to put the fire out.'

 

The helicopter was still burning when firefighters arrived, the local news channel reported. 

The officials said two people aboard were killed. Their identities were not immediately released. There were no injuries on the ground.

William Baragan, a hot dog vender in the area, told WSVN-TV that he heard the engine sputter.

'I hear engine problems. I hear thrum, thrum, thrum, thrum, thrum. I look up when I'm selling a hot dogs here.'

'I see the thing explode. No smoke. The tail comes down this side. On the other side comes down here. I'm running down calling 911.'

Mr Baragan joined with other onlookers in pulling the victims out of the crashed helicopter.

One victim appeared to be breathing, the man said. The second victim appeared to already be dead.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.

I will never ride in a helicopter. Mother Nature did not make a bird or insect with wings that spin around, way too risky.
