Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois admits future at Stamford Bridge is 'unclear'

By Joe Ridge

Chelsea's on-loan Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has admitted that he does not know where he will be playing his football next season.

The 20-year-old is in his second season-long spell at Atletico Madrid, where he has established himself as one of the best young keepers in Europe and become a regular starter for his country.

But with Petr Cech in firmly established as Chelsea's No 1 and showing no signs of being in decline, Courtois has been continually linked with a permanent move away this summer.

‘My future is unclear, it’s the same as I have said in the past few weeks,’ Courtois told Metro.

‘I was hoping that this week I would find out what will happen, but Chelsea have asked for a bit more time, perhaps because they are going to get a new coach.

‘I don’t know what will happen but I will have to wait a little longer before I find out.’

Chelsea paid Genk 7.9million for Courtois back in the summer of 2011.

Well some reports reckon theres an agreement with Atletico, but it all depends on the new manager agreeing.

Please do not allow him to leave, Chelsea! He will be the next number 1 keeper if he stays on his current track!

I like this kid but he does talk too much. But then again, Lukaku and KDB have been doing the same ever since signing...maybe its a Belgian thing. I say give him one more season in Madrid.

I say keep him at Athletico for one more season. It will only do him good as AM is a fantastic team and he is getting the game time he needs. Cech has atleast one more good season to give and Courtois is too good of a keeper to bench!!

I say bring him in now, Cech may have made a wonder save on monday night but he still isn't the keeper he was before he got the bang on the head. Too many goals conceded through poor positioning, and he has been beaten too often from long range as well.
