Here come the girls! Local ladies raise the stakes in glamour game as Aintree prepares for record crowds at Grand National meeting

It's one of the most exciting events in the racing calendar and as punters pile in to Aintree for the Grand National meeting the action off the turf is just as exciting as the main event.

There are seven races on the card on the Grand Opening Day with a star-studded field going to post in the Aintree Hurdle at 3.05pm.

Countrywide Flame, Grandouet and The New One – a classy winner of the Neptune Investments Hurdle at Cheltenham last month – are attracting plenty of attention while champion jockey Tony McCoy is on Oscar Whisky. The Nicky Henderson-trained eight-year-old has won the last two renewals of this race with Barry Geraghty in the saddle.

Also catching the eye are the local ladies.

Racecourse chiefs said the day was set to be a record with 33,000 people attending, beating last year’s record of 30,000, and the women of Liverpool are famous for their commitment to glamour.

The annual event is the perfect opportunity to show off their bright, beautiful, weird and wonderful spring wardrobes. Accessorized, always, with a deep mahogany tan.

Last year's April showers couldn't dampen the spirits of the gangs of girls who braved the icy temperatures in bare legs, thigh-high skirts and killer heels.

And today as temperatures in Liverpool are forecast to hit 8C fashion watchers braced themselves for a style spectacular.

IMO Ladies day at any race meeting typically attracts the most un-ladylike ladies you will ever see!

This cannot be real!!!!! The manner of how those women are dressed is atrocious. Clothes, makeup, hair. Wow. I guess you can't buy class.

Jikes!!! Some filled out ladies with some rather unflattering hem-lines there. Do they not have mirrors or honest friends who will just say No! As for MD Productions, my word what a sight. My eyes hurt.
