Soon-to-be British No 1 Laura Robson was knocked out of the Family Circle Cup today, losing her second-round clash with close friend Eugenie Bouchard in three sets.

Robson, who ensured she will move above Heather Watson in the national rankings by winning her first-round encounter, was the 16th seed at the claycourt event in Charleston but again struggled with her serve against her fellow 19-year-old.

Canadian qualifier Bouchard triumphed 6-4 3-6 6-1 in a match lasting two hours six minutes, during which the Briton committed eight double-faults to her opponent's three.

Robson began the week 42nd in the world rankings, which will be next updated by the WTA on Monday - two places behind Watson, who has been diagnosed with glandular fever.

Well losing to a 'close friend' should surely soften the blow.

Eugene Bouchard won the Wimbeldon Juniors as did another Canadian win the boys. So don't feel too bad. - Michael John Rowe , Waterloo, 04/4/2013 I agree. after all Bouchard is no 114 in the world and only 19. Now, if Bouchard has been 18, then it would have been embarassing.

How hard can it be to just win ONE match?

I think Laura Robson has great potential as a player. But, until she can improve her serve, she won't improve her ranking. It was interesting to see how well she played in doubles last week at the Sony Open. Having a partner on court seemed to give her confidence, and a much improved serve.
