HOW FORMED:
Donita Sparks, a former Chicago resident, met Sacremento transplant Suzi Gardner in Los Angeles. Both had played with various other bands. A strong chemistry between the two convinced them that they were destined to start a band. In 1986, Jennifer Finch moved from San Francisco back down to her native LA. She was enlisted to play bass. In 1988, they recorded their self-titled debut album. It was produced by Brett Guertwitz, and released on Epitaph Records.

HIGHLIGHT:
1994 was a good year for L7. Donita flung used tampons to the crowd at England’s Reading Festival (yummy!) and proceeded to flash pussy to England’s televison audience. They joined the 1994 Lollapalooza tour with a large snowman in tow. Finch’s tour journals appeared on AOL for all to see. They also got a stint hosting 120 Minutes on MTV.

<!—QUOTE:
“L7 are a primal rock machine.” – Jon Poneman, Sub Pop Records CEO

“L7 is chaos, a square in a world of circles; rein in that chaos and you’ve muffled the careening, scattershot energy that makes the band go.” – Rolling Stone
