She is one of the more stylish mothers in Hollywood and her fashion expertise is certainly extending to her young children.

Nicole Richie, 31, spent the day at the playground with four-year-old daughter Harlow and son Sparrow - who revealed his new daring hairstyle.

His mother obviously had a word in her hairdresser's ear as the youngster's shaved style looked very boho chic, as it was all topped off with Sparrow's natural mop of curls.

Nicole, who unlike what seems like most of her fellow celebrities, is not at Coachella looked content spending the day with her children in the blazing LA sunshine.

Super slim Nicole kept up her boho-chic style with tiny Daisy Dukes, a loose leather jacket and some casual sunglasses.

Her young son looked thrilled to be picked up by his mother and was seen chatting away to her as Nicole pushed him on the swing with his sister.

Harlow, Nicole's first child, looked super cute in her pink dress and temporary butterfly tattoos, revealing a mass of curls like her mother.

Nicole, who has been married to Joel Madden since 2010, has been accused of overdoing her work out schedule - spending hours every day in the gym.

'Nicole usually spends a couple of hours working out every day', a friend told Star magazine.

Nicole is known to be a fan of celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson and her slim figure certainly showed on her playground outing.

The former wild child has revealed the reasoning behind her son's name, saying: 'Sparrow was one we both liked. I liked the way it sounded with Harlow, and there’s the Captain Jack Sparrow connection.'

Whereas her husband said: 'It reminded me of the Johnny Cash song ‘A Boy Named Sue.’ My worry raising a son in Hollywood is what will he have to struggle for?

'I wanted to give him a name that he’s going to have to stand up for. I love it; I think it’s a beautiful name.'

I wouldn't name my child sparrow but I actually like the name. Some ask WHY I say why not? Everyone has different tastes. I can't stand some other names which others may love. It's unique and I like it.
