Homeland star and new mom Claire Danes has snapped up a $6.8 million townhouse in Manhattan's trendy West Village to raise her newborn son.

The actress, 34, and her husband, Hugh Dancy, 37, have already moved into the sprawling, four-storey home, which has more than enough room for their little boy Cyrus - and it's certainly posher than her alter-ego Carrie Mathison's bleak Washington DC apartment.

Claire - who has won plaudits for playing bipolar CIA analyst Carrie in the Showtime hit - bought the house after selling her bachelorette pad in Soho for $5.8 million in November, MailOnline can reveal.

Proud parents: Homeland star Claire Danes and husband Hugh Dancy - seen here at the Golden Globes in January - have bought a $6.8 million townhouse in New York's West Village.

The stunning home features outdoor space on three levels: a courtyard, a terrace off the library and a roof garden with stunning village roof top views.

It also has an open plan kitchen and dining area and five bedrooms - and is a welcome addition to the country home the couple own in New York's Hudson River Valley.

Claire, who gave birth to Cyrus Michael Christopher in December, had told how she was looking forward to getting to know 'Our new Dancy'.

The Romeo + Juliet actress married Brit star Hugh in a secret ceremony in France in 2009.

And after announcing her pregnancy, Claire told Anderson Cooper the couple was ecstatic to be expecting their first child after three years of marriage.

As the cover star of Elle's February issue, the star admitted she was pleased to be a working mom, adding: 'I’ve always wanted to have kids, but I’m glad I didn’t until now. When I was thinking about [working and being a mother] originally, I was really nervous about it…I think I would make a lousy stay-at-home mom. It just wouldn’t suit me. I feel so fortunate, in that I’ve had this arrow-straight focus…that I wanted to act.'

Just weeks after giving birth, Claire was back to her sleek self as she stepped on the red carpet at the Golden Globes in a red Versace gown - where she picked up a gong for best actress in a drama series.

Picking up the SAG award a few weeks later, she took to the stage and admitted she was relying on Spanx control underwear, confessing: 'As a brand spankin'...or Spanx-ing new mom...'

But it seems the star may be on something of a health kick, having been spotted jogging around New York - and clutching a bag of LOVE*deep juices on her arm.

According to the health store's website, LOVE*deep is a 3-day deep juice cleanse made from pure, energised food, with a three day cleanse costing $75.

However, although she's losing weight, she said that baby Cyrus is putting on the pounds, revealing: 'All that time on the boob is starting to result in growth. He's getting rolls... thank goodness they've arrived.

'He's starting to smile a little bit and he kind of knows I exist. That's reassuring, that feedback is amazing.'

Time to study: There is room for a simple office space in the new home.

Claire now has a break before heading back to Charlotte, North Carolina, to film the third season of Homeland with Brit co-star Damian Lewis, who plays Sgt Nicholas Brody - which will give her enough time to spend time with her young son and give her new home a makeover.

She has praised her husband - who now stars in NBC's new drama Hannibal - for being supportive, saying: 'Hugh was just the right partner for me. I got very, very lucky. There’s only so much credit you can take when it just sort of works, you know?

'And obviously we work hard at maintaining our relationship – that is central to both our lives – but at the same time, it’s just this kind of ease that I can’t really account for.'

The house looks lovely and homey. It is large but not ridiculously so. Another thing to add on my ever-increasing mental list of things that make Claire cool.

It is a very pretty apartment. But it is amazing how much that costs in NYC. Other places, it would be a couple of hundred grand tops.

Great actress. She was fantastic in Temple Grandin, and Homeland.
