Brooklyn Tweed Trunk Show at Purl Soho!

Tilda Cardigan by Yoko Hatta

Purl Soho has always been honored to be one of Brooklyn Tweed's flagship locations, and now we are so excited to host the latest Brooklyn Tweed Trunk Show! We invite you to come experience this season's beautiful hand knits in person; admire the gorgeous colors and thoughtful details; even try on your favorite pieces! You'll also find all the coordinating Brooklyn Tweed patterns and yarns so you can cast on right away!

When: Brooklyn Tweed's original hand knits will be on view at Purl Soho from Saturday, April 20th through Sunday, April 28th. Come visit!

Kindling Shawl by Leila Raabe

Inglenook Socks by Adrian Bizilia

Dresden Vest by Kirsten Johnstone

We'll have pieces from two of Brooklyn Tweed's recent collections: Wool People 4, which features patterns by guest designers from around the world; and BT FALL 12, which is created by Brooklyn Tweed's fabulous in-house team. Both collections evoke a traditional rural ruggedness in the context of modern urban design. And both make use of Brooklyn Tweed's gorgeous wools: its worsted weight Shelter and its fingering weight Loft.

Wellwood Henley by Michele Wang

Forge Watch Cap by Jared Flood

Breton Shirt by Jared Flood

Conceived and developed by Brooklyn Tweed's founder, Jared Flood, both Shelter and Loft are 100% homegrown. Made with Wyoming-grown wool from Targhee-Columbia sheep, the yarns are spun and dyed in Harrisville, New Hampshire, a centuries-old mill town with a deep history. The result is traditional woolen yarns that are tweedy and vigorous, rich and evocative. Perfect for classic hand knits!

Stop by our Soho shop the week of April 20th - April 28th and revel in the tangles of cables, the playfulness of colorwork and the beauty of mindful design! We can't wait to see you!

Join us at Brooklyn Craft Camp!

Join us on Saturday, March 16th for Brooklyn Craft Camp!

Brooklyn Craft Camp is the brainchild of Brett Bara, host of television series Knit & Crochet Now, regular contributor to Design Sponge, and creator of popular lifestyle blog Manhattan Craft Room. Brett dreamed of an event where she'd combine her love of modern crafting with the creative spirit of the Brooklyn community. Add some delicious food, good friends, music and cocktails, and you get the perfect day!

Kick off your morning with donuts from Greenpoint's own Peter Pan Bakery, and then delve into the first two classes of the day. You choose! Learn how to crochet, fashion some stylish painted wooden bead necklaces, fold your own crepe paper flowers, master the art of embroidery, create papercut cards, learn how to knit, build a terrarium, or carve stamps in the printmaking class!

Next you'll head over to a scrumptious locally-sourced lunch which Purl Soho is very proud to help sponsor! Enjoy a gourmet bento-box created by local independent chef Lisa Leonard-Lee. Fill up on tasty brioche sandwiches, fennel, saffron and potato soup, pickled baby vegetables, gorgeous salads, and finish with some yummy candied ginger shortbread. Check out the full menu right here!  During the lunch break you'll hear from Jay McCarroll, winner of Project Runway Season 1, who will regale you with tales of his Runway adventures. He'll also share his love of crafts and handmade goods and how they inspire his current fashions!

After you've had your fill of tasty fare, explore Camp's quickie craft booths, including a DIY Nail Art stand, the Craft-A-Day bar, and Purl Soho's Pom Pom Making Station! Join us for some seriously colorful and instantly gratifying fun! We'll show you how to whip up multicolor pom poms to embellish your knits, your gifts, or even yourself.

And the crafting extravaganza continues with two more 90-minute classes taught by New York's best authors, bloggers and designers, including terrarium designer Gönül Yetim. Then, gather up your newly completed projects and head over to cocktail hour where you can sip a signature Brooklyn Craft Camp cocktail and snap pictures with your new friends in the Camp photobooth

Wrap up your mini DIY vacation with Brooklyn Craft Camp Goodie Bags filled to the brim with craft supplies, magazines and more!  All attendees will also receive a Purl Soho Goodie Bag which includes a skein of Purl Soho's sumptuous Super Soft Merino, our exclusive Embroidery Needles stored in a pretty wooden case, and a class schedule so you can keep on crafting even after Camp has ended! All of this comes inside our Purl Soho Zip Bag from Baggu. Lightweight and sturdy, it is the perfect bag for on-the-go craft projects!

Brooklyn Craft Camp taps into the incredible creative energy of the Brooklyn craft community and brings it together with the thrill of learning new skills and meeting new friends. This is definitely one crafty camp you don't want to miss!!

Register here for the Brooklyn Craft Camp! See you on Saturday, March 16th! We're so excited!

You're Invited! Stitched Gifts Book Launch Party at Purl Soho

We are so pleased to announce the release of Jessica Marquez's very first book, Stitched Gifts!

I was first introduced to Jessica's work through her online store, Miniature Rhino, and was awed by the unique and thoughtful gifts that filled her virtual shelves. Each immaculate stitch is created with such a modern hand, that the graphic punchiness of, say, initials encircled in a chain stitched heart, goes, well... straight to my heart!

Stitched Gifts is filled with inspiring projects and ideas that put you on the path to creating your own memorable presents and personalized treasures.  As Jessica says, this book "was born out my love for creating...heirlooms that will hopefully be passed down through the generations. I wanted to share this with everyone!" Jessica also shares a whole bunch of know-how, including a photo illustrated stitch guide, a materials guide, guidance on framing and backing your finished pieces, and tons of other tips and tricks!

Jessica teaches some amazing embroidery classes at Purl Soho, like Stitch Dictionary or Custom Monogram, but her book is a close second to Jessica sitting by your side.  Stitched Gifts is so approachable and comprehensive that you'll feel in very good hands as you embark on your stitching adventure!

If you're in the New York area, please come celebrate the launch of this wonderful book with us! Get an up close and personal look at Jessica's beautiful original embroideries; enjoy a conversation about the finer points of stitching; and view a demonstration of key embroidery techniques with Jessica Marquez!
