The View panel never shy away from the hot topics of the day.

But the debate on gun control become more than just a discussion when Sherri Shepherd announced she wanted to arm herself on Thursday.

The 46 year-old announced that she wanted to buy a gun after her burglar alarm went off at 1am that morning saying an intruder was inside.

The alarm and it's warning terrified Shepherd, her husband Lamar Sally and their son Jeffery, despite the police arrived seven minutes later to reassure the family it was simply a false alarm.

Nonetheless, the devout Christian who has taken a more conservative stance on a number of recent hot-button political issues to make The View's roundtable, declared they were buying a gun.

'I’m trying to calm Jeffrey down and all I had was this wicker basket,' Sherri said. 'I have nothing, a bat, nothing. We’re going to get a gun.' While Barbara Walters tried to talk Shepherd out of the idea, fill-in co-host, country music singer and licensed gun holder Gretchen Wilson supported the former stand-up comedian, claiming she carried a .38 caliber pistol in her purse and had a .45 caliber pistol beside her bed.

Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg encouraged Shepherd to go out and buy a bat.

A conservative voice: Shepherd will be one of the last remaining conservative voices on The View with Elisabeth Hasselbeck reportedly leaving sometime this year

Sherri has been a permanent co-host on The View since 2007.

The show has made news recently over a number of co-hosts vacating their seats on the show.

Shortly after long-time co-host Joy Behar announced she would be leaving the daytime talk show this August, reports surfaced that controversial conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck would also not be returning to the show once her current contract expired, later this year.

While there is no confirmation on who would be filling these two seats, it does appear the former Dancing with the Stars contestant is becoming the more conservative voice, at least in the meantime.

Who even knows if the "story" she told was true, however, I can't tell you how many times an alarm has gone off accidentally, and I think the last thing a woman who was not sure if the world was flat (direct quote from her first day) should own a firearm. She has a young son, a huge husband and a loud mouth. Try a bat and a motion detection system that lights up the entire property. The propensity for deaths in gun owned households in the US is enormous.

Police have weapons for THEIR protection, not YOURS. Arm YOURSELF - guns, bats, knives, whatever - but personally, in the middle of the night, I can fire my shotgun right down from my bedroom and kill an intruder before he/she gets to us - not so accurate flining a knife.....

I understand what people are saying about guns and gun control. However, until I had a family, I never had a thought to own a gun personally. If you can, just imagine this: It is 3 AM..and you hear the alarm go off followed by breaking glass. You are home alone with your two children. How do you expect to protect yourself and guarantee the childrens safety from the person or persons entering your home? Do you reach for the gun that you carefully lock up in a gun safe and give yourself a fighting chance or do you call 911 and wait for help to arrive? I can guarantee you the person breaking in to your home is not there to sell you Avon.

Love it that I got red arrowed for my opinion. I have an alarm in my house and it has gone off falsely. The last thing I would even dream of is "let's buy a gun". Just me.
