MARGAO: The state got its 12th taluka on Thursday after the government issued a notification for five panchayats from the Sanguem taluka and one panchayat from Ponda to be incorporated into a new taluka – Dharbandora, informed officials on Friday.
"At present the mamlatdar of Sanguem, Mr Amol Gaunkar will be looking after it till a new mamlatdar is appointed. I was there since yesterday. The panchayat has a few buildings and we have identified one such building. It needs minor repairs like painting, electrical and some minor finishing," the Collector, South, Mr G P Naik told media on Friday, adding that he thought that this would take around 15 days.
He also said that the government would be appointing a mamlatdar for the taluka within a few days and till such time the Sanguem mamlatdar would continue to handle the affairs of the new taluka too.
"This taluka of 18 villages would be helpful for the people of the area as otherwise they would have to spend the whole day in Sanguem to get the work done. It is a boost for these people," he said adding that the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat had issued directions to all departments to expedite and set up all the offices there as per the requirements of a taluka.
According to officials, the villages Aglore, Moissal, Bandoli, Codli, Collem, Caranzol, Camarconda, Cormonem, Dharbandora, Mollem, Piliem, Sancordem, Sangod, Sigao, Sonauli, Surla, Usgao and Ganjem will form the new taluka that will be a part of South Goa. Before this new addition, the state had five talukas in North and six talukas in South for a
total of 11.
