Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, May 08, 2013.

Wet weather conditions continue in the East on Wednesday, while an active weather pattern progresses across the Western and Central U.S.

In the East, a slow moving low situated over the Mid-Atlantic States will lift northward up the spine of the Central Appalachians, while an associated occluded front lifts across the northern Mid-Atlantic into southern New England. Winds wrapping around the system will continue to pull moisture inland and will lead to areas of scattered showers and chances of thunderstorms through the day. More moderate precipitation is anticipated in areas just north of the frontal boundary, along the southern New England coast. While severe thunderstorms are not anticipated with this system, prolonged rainfall will continue the threat of flooding for areas of the Central Appalachians.

Behind this activity, active weather will pick up across the Great Plains on Wednesday as the closed low over the West shifts eastward. Scattered to locally numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected from Kansas through Nebraska and will spread into the Upper and Mid-Mississippi Valleys as an associated trough of low pressure emerges from the Rockies and advances eastward toward the Mississippi Valley. Meanwhile, a sharpening dryline will allow thunderstorms to develop from southwestern Kansas through western Texas during the afternoon. This activity will spread east/northeastward as the day progresses with a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development. Damaging wind gusts and hail are the primary threats associated with possible severe weather in areas of west-central Texas, western Oklahoma, and much of Kansas in the Missouri River Valley. Elsewhere, rain and high elevation snow will continue in the Sierra Nevadas, Central Great Basin, and the Central Rockies.
