She's got guts! Zooey Deschanel displays a touch of tummy as she wears cropped top and loud skirt to New Girl screening

She gave her network a verbal tap on the wrist recently after they mistakenly identified her as the Boston Marathon bomber.

But Zooey Deschanel was all-smiles on Tuesday as she fronted a New Girl screening.

The comedy show star grinned her way through the event in Los Angeles, California, getting noticed in a festive skirt.

She tried to tone down the piece by fashioning a cropped T-shirt and opaque tights with the items.

The star wore pointy black patent heels on her feet, a pair of shoes which may have been ruined by her dog later that evening.

She tweeted alongside an Instagram image: ‘My 9 pound terrier mix just chewed through a very nice pair of shoes. I should be mad, but I’m just too impressed with her dedication.

‘And after she chewed my shoes, Dot fell asleep on my foot. I think she's trying to tell me something.’

She was joined at the gathering by her co-stars and Hannah Simone – starring as Cece - rivalled her spectacular ensemble with a botanical print blue frock.

There seemed to be somewhat a colour theme among the actors as Jake Johnson, who plays Nick Miller, was styled in a light blue shirt as did Max Greenfield with a beige blazer, who portrays Schmidt.

Lamorne Morris – who is Winston Bishop in the programme – was decked out in dark shades completing a lineup of perfectly co-ordinated cast members.

A question and answer session was held inside the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood.

She posted on Twitter: ‘Just had a super fun ATAS panel for #NEWGIRL where I was serenaded! Thanks to everyone who attended!’

The programme which debuted in September 2012 follows her character Jess, an offbeat young woman, who moves into an apartment loft with three single men.

Although they find her behaviour very unusual, the men support her - most of the time.

Earlier this month Zooey’s name was used on a local Fox station, when they misidentified the 19-year-old man police were looking for.

'Marathon bombing, he is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel,' read the errant caption, which flubbed the name of Dzhokhar A Tsarnaev, who was ultimately arrested after he was found hiding in a boat behind a home in Watertown, Mass.

'Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL!' the actress wrote on Twitter.
