Hair heroine: This week we are loving Jennifer Lawrence's midi-length bob

Jennifer Lawrence has had an incredible year, including an Oscar win, so what better time to change her look.

Her new midi-length bob says: ‘Look at me — I’m fun and flirty and one to watch.’

By taking off those extra three inches of hair, she has sliced off the Hollywood mould and given herself an edgier look. But this hairdo takes a huge amount of effort.

Layering is the key to creating this care-free, tousled style.

The wave is achieved using curling tongs and mousse or styling spray.

But, says Roger Britnell, senior stylist at Neville Hair & Beauty, Jennifer shouldn’t go any shorter with her hair as she has a long face that wouldn’t suit a proper bob.

The softening effect of the longer layers and gently tousled ends is great for anyone with a defined jawline, says Roger, who adds: 'I think this is the best yet as it works with her jaw line by softening it as her jaw is quite strong.

'The colour is great and I do prefer it to the black which was a little Gothic and harsh on her.

'The caramac colour is great for this time of the year and as it warms up her skin tone will go more golden. So the sun kissed curls are great. I wonder if her next role is going to be a beach babe?'

Lawrence is famous for her ever-changing hairstyle and has swung from deep chocolate brown to blond and back again, as well as experimenting with different updos.

Her latest look is her most grown-up to date and a far cry from the dishevelled dark plait worn by her Hunger Games character, Katniss Everdeen.

'The 22-year-old star has gone from blonde to black extensions to wigs, and even sported a 70's inspired do,' says Roger.

'But the best part about her constant hair transformations is that she has carried them off because of who she is and her carefree attitude which is less uber glamour and more down to earth.'

What's more, adds Roger, her new look is one that works on just about everyone. 'This undone curl bob does suit any hair texture,' he explains.

'However I would say if you have very fine hair you need to work with a lot more product and use something like Fibre Lift from Shu Uemura to give more volume.'

Keep the waves in place, he adds, by crunching your hair with your own hands throughout the day to give it that undone wavy look.

GET THE LOOK: ROGER EXPLAINS HOW TO GET (AND MAINTAIN) JEN'S  WAVES

'To maintain Jennifer's natural looking waves, you need a good stock of products,' says Roger. 'You need to apply thickening cream first.

'I would recommend Tasai from Shu Uemura to give structure to the curl and would rough dry rather than blow dry the hair.

'Add powder from L'Oreal Techni Art or try a dab of the Volume Maker Shu Uemura powder brush - it's a handbag hero for this type of hair. Stroke it through to give texture and volume.

'Apply the brush through the mid length section of hair but don't go near the roots or you will get too much lift.

'Finally, take sections of the hair and fix the waves in place with a set of curling tongs. That's all you really need to do to make this style last all day.'

Looking at the length of her hair before and after, its quite obvious she's had more than 3 inches off. Some people should really get a grip with their measurements! - DJG, Birmingham, United Kingdom, 2/5/2013 9:42 */*/*/*/*/*/*/*/* As a male this bodes quite well for me

"mid-length bob"? From what it looks like she has about shoulder-length hair to me!

Is it just my imagination but is this not even vaguely a newsworthy item? Do these hair experts actually know how to do anything other than come out with a load of sycophantic twaddle?

this 'hairdo takes a huge amount of effort' DM? Really? I just lopped off about the same amount as Jennifer 2 weeks ago & the lack of length makes this cut one of the EASIEST to handle. Even for curly girls! It is very liberating though... wash, primp, go!
