Simultaneous multiplatform release feasible; Plus Braid dev praises PS4 dev kits

The next puzzle game by Jonathan Blow, the indie developer who built Braid, will be released for iOS and PC soon after it's released on PS4.

In an interview with Kotaku, where Blow discussed why he wanted to release the game on a console, the developer also revealed there would be little or no delay between the PS4, PC and iOS releases.

"Our deal with Sony is a limited-time exclusivity that applies only to competing console platforms," Blow said, referring to the next generation Xbox and Wii U.

But that exclusivity period doesn't apply to PC or iOS, meaning that The Witness could launch simultaneously on three platforms.

"The ideal situation for us is to release everything simultaneously or close to simultaneously," Blow said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Blow said that launching on PS4 wasn't so much a decision about money but more a workflow choice.

"The Wii U still has pretty low system specs, so it came down to a choice between the next Microsoft console or the next Sony console. There were people at Sony who really liked the game and were keeping in touch with us about it, and so we naturally started going to their PS4 developer events, got a dev kit, and started playing with it.

"I don't have good communication with anyone at Microsoft right now, and haven't been disclosed on their next console, but all our technical people like the PS4 specs a lot more than the leaked Durango specs, and we like the positioning of the PS4 (it's about games) a lot more than what we perceive Microsoft's positioning is going to be."

The PS4 release date is set for "holiday 2013", likely across Japan, Europe and the US.
