Solange Knowles' fashion adventure takes a wrong turn as she wears a bizarre pinstripe suit that's slashed open to reveal her bra

Usually she's hailed as the more fashion savvy of the two Knowles sisters.

But Solange Knowles made a rare faux pas when she stepped out wearing an oversized pinstripe suit that was slashed at the sides, revealing her underwear.

Beyonce's baby sister, 26, was swamped by the unflattering two-piece, which did nothing for her svelte figure.

Beneath the suit she wore a white shirt, which was the single redeeming feature of the masculine look, although it appeared to be somehow sewn in to the strange jacket.

Her sunglasses were also stripey, and she carried a yellow satchel over one shoulder, which broke up the otherwise two-tone outfit.

The shoes featured a chunky silver heel and blue satin straps, which were at least in the same hue as her baggy suit. 

She wore the bizarre ensemble as she took a walk around New York's Upper East Side on Tuesday afternoon.

Solange, who is mum to Daniel, 9, opened up to the French edition of Glamour last summer to talk about her solo career and her reputation as a fashion icon.

Of her style she said: '[It's] very eclectic as I like to take risks, but I always cling to glamourous touches and classic details.

I’m not necessarily inspired by magazines or fashion. I surf a lot on blogs and find it cool to see real style from real people.

'My travels also influence me. I always take lots of pictures, and then inject all those inspirations into my wardrobe, my home decor, or my makeup.

It's impossible to say whether any of Solange's fashion icons would dare leave their hotel wearing something so unglamorous, but she definitely likes to march to the beat of her own drum.

Luckily, a few hours later, she was back to her glamorous best when she arrived at the Met Gala in a Kenzo gown that highlighted her trim figure and toned legs. 

'Afro-Punk #Metball #Kenzo,' she tweeted, signalling that the suit was safely back in the wardrobe, out of sight.

Typical DM anti-Knowles sentiment. Always slanting their articles to make Beyonce look bad and Solange as the lesser sister living in her sister's shadow. I've never seen an article that puts the sisters (esp. Beyonce) in a positive light. DM put an end to this!

a family of ghetto trash.. yep just what we needed.Ever hear Beyonce speak? I'm embarrassed for her...and every English teacher that suffered her as a student.As pretty aas she is..when she opens her mouth the ghetto falls out. pity really.
