Second neighbor claims HE was the one who freed Amanda Berry by kicking down the locked door to get her out

A second neighbor is coming forward claiming that he was the one to save Amanda Berry from the house where she had been kept for nearly a decade.

Angel Cordero was never mentioned by Charles Ramsey, the entertaining folk hero who has captured the attention of the nation in the wake of the dramatic rescue Monday night.

Cordero, who has his niece Ashley translate for him in interviews, said that he was sitting on a neighbor's porch when they heard some commotion and went to check it out, only to find the woman desperate for help.

'(The neighbor) had told me that there was something going on in the house at the front and we went to go see and all we heard was screaming,' Mr Cordero told Piers Morgan on CNN.

'We saw a hand outside the house that was moving up and down so we went to go check what was going on and she had told me that she had been kidnapped  for ten years.

'I kicked the door at the bottom because I was trying to get it open because it was too hard so I got it at the bottom and that's when Amanda ran out of the house.'

The detail of Berry poking her arm out of the locked door matches the description given by Ramsey, who was in the crowd outside of the police station following the rescue of the three young women who Ariel Castro kidnapped years ago.

Version of events: Ramsey did say that he saw his neighbor running across the street but did not mention Cordero by name. Both men have shunned calls of them being heroes

In his discussion with CNN on Wednesday night, Mr Cordero said that he was able to quickly understand the danger of the situation and insist that they run for fear of Castro's return.

'When Amanda came out she returned to get her daughter and she took her out of the hole at the bottom of the door and I told her "Quickly, let's go across the street to (the neighbor's) house just in case the man comes back so you won't get hurt or anything" so she went to (the neighbor's) house and she used her phone and that's when she let the police know what was going on,' he told CNN through the translation of his niece.

When Morgan asked about Ramsey's role in the harrowing rescue, Mr Cordero did not mention his presence at all.

'The first one that talked directly to Amanda was me and she was the one that told me what was going on and she told me that there was two other women in the house,' Mr Cordero said.

In an earlier interview with local channel , Mr Cordero went into a bit more detail about Ramsey's role, saying that by the time Mr Ramsey arrived, Amanda was already 'outside with the girl'.

Saved: No matter who did it, Amanda Berry was freed with her daughter and then she told police that there were other girls captured as well

'But the truth who arrived there, who crossed the street, who came and broke the door, it was me.'

But Mr Cordero says that he does not harbor any resentment or jealousy toward Mr Ramsey, as long as the women he helped rescue from the home are okay.

For his part, Mr Ramsey didn't mention Mr Cordero by name but did say that when he heard the woman screaming he saw his neighbour run across the street and so he went along to see what was going on.

His concern appears to be with the young women as well, saying that he does not deserve any of the reward money that was offered in relation to the case.

'I tell you what you do, give it to them… you know I got a job anyway' before pulling out his paycheck that he just picked up and showing it to Cooper.

Ramsey, who is a dishwasher, brushed off his hero status, telling Cooper that he just had to 'do the right thing', adding: 'Bro, I’m a Christian, an American, and just like you. We bleed the same blood, put our pants on the same way.

'It’s just that you got to put that - being a coward, and I don’t want to get in nobody's business. You got to put that away for a minute.'

Oh my, readers, two héroes now. How you gonna rate them? Hero one and Hero 2? Equal héroes? Grade em on a one to ten of heroic characteristics as demonstrated on a J. Kyle format style hero evaluation show? Its all a bit much, all these blinkin héroes emerging, but I just know that you, dear readers, are adamant in confirming their status, come one come all, as héroes.

Ramsay did mention someone else being involved. Ramsay is also the only other person apart from Amanda who we have heard make a 911 call. Both men played a part in helping the girls no need for point scoring.

It doesn't matter which neighbour rescued them, the three Castro brothers have caused enough misery in your neighbourhood, don't let them create any more by having you all at each others throats. Pull together and make your community stronger and better from the recent events. You're all HEROES to these terrorised women and their families for being there when they needed your help.

They must have realised there's a reward for finding them, I say share the reward out to everybody in the neighbourhood and give them all $2 each. Problem solved.

By his own admission he went after seeing and hearing something that was already taking place. Why does he need to mention he was first? Is he expecting a reward? I hope he doesn't have anything in his past or present that will cause embarrassment or he will regret this need for attention. Why can't people do good deeds and go about their day with a smile? Why do they have to become characters and attention seekers? You saved four lives and maybe countless others! That would make me feel unbelievably joyful for the rest of my life!

"The first one that talked directly to Amanda was me and she was the one that told me..." But according to various sources, he does not speak English, so how was he able to talk to the girl and understand what she said, unless Amanda Berry can speak Spanish.

This is just getting ridiculous. That's America for you, everyone seeking the limelight. They are all in it for what they can get. This loser Cordero should crawl back into his hole. This is not about you Cordero! The girls are now safe, that's what America and the world cares about

In all the confusion during the escape it's understandable people missed who or what was around them while helping Miss Berry. I don't think anyone was trying to take credit for the escape, the media wanted the story and Mr. Ramsey was present to answer. Mr. Cordero was very brave to involve himself along w/ the rest of the heroes on that day! Best wishes and a speedy recovery to those brave women! Safety and prayers for the children who are still lost and need our help to get home!
