She is no stranger to causing controversy but Margaret Cho certainly shocked audiences on her recent Australian tour.

The comedienne decided to use John Travolta’s sexuality as the brunt of several of her jokes.

Cho, who starred with Travolta in the 1997 movie Face/Off, branded the married actor ‘gay’ several times during her routine.

‘I’m going to get in trouble but I’ll just tell you,’ she said to the crowd. ‘He is so gay. John Travolta is so gay.’

But Cho, who is openly bisexual and a gay rights activist, didn’t stop there.

‘He’s not just gay. He doesn’t just like men,’ she said. ‘He is like Oscar Wilde gay… like Lord Byron gay.

‘That kind of crazy, incredibly flamboyant gay… I feel bad for him; because I know he would be much happier if he could just come out. But he can’t.’

Cho, 44, then proceeded to describe what it was like to act beside the 59-year-old on Face/Off, after claiming they spent a year together working on the action thriller.

‘It was a weird movie because the way that he worked on it was John Travolta, he can only work 10 hours a day,’ she said.

‘And part of the 10 hours is him flying his plane to the location and flying home. So essentially he only had to work like five hours a day.’

She went on: ‘He was so pampered and so taken care of, it was the closest I have ever been to being in the presence of a king,’ before adding, ‘Or a queen,  actually.’

Cho ended her segment with the words: ‘But I felt bad for him because he was so gay and couldn’t be out about it.’

Travolta, who has been married to Kelly Preston since 1991, had two sexual harassment lawsuits filed against him last year by male masseurs, both of which were eventually dropped.

She must need a career boost. What a pathetic attempt at humor.

And?! So what if he is... I dont think its any of our business! And if she' gay she should know better not to bully someone about it. Absolutely disgusting.

Obviously she is poor comedian judging by what she wore. Hoping by making a crack at travolta would stir controversy to land more gigs to buy new threads.

John Travolta is an amazing performer. It's HIS choice what he tells the world about his private life. It's certainly not the place of a temporary acquaintance - a mere short-term co-worker - to make announcements that the man himself has not chosen to make. Even before this incident, I found Margaret Cho unfunny and minimally talented, and now I think she's vile. And btw, it's fine with me if he is gay - I'll still be a fan.

What makes his sexuality and personal life material for her so called comedy routines? She has not right to publicly make statements like that - for profit no less! Where di she get that warped sense of entitlement from?!?! I hope Travolta rakes her over the coals.

So tired of everyone "coming out" anyway. Heterosexuals don't go around announcing to everyone that they sleep with someone of the opposite sex and then grandstand their partners. Enough already. - kindenver , denver, 08/5/2013 14:03---------------Yes straight people do, especially men, what do you think all that macho womanising is all about? I'm tired of ignorant people like you thinking that people coming out is because they are attention seeking.

She is not funny and her TV show American Girl was a flop.
