'I'm proud to be a Lohan': Lindsay's sister Ali opens up about the stigma attached to her family name... as she signs major modelling contract

With a big sister who is constantly making headlines, it's been hard for Ali Lohan to break out on her own.

But the sister of troubled starlet Lindsay is finally making a name for herself in the modelling world after being signed to major agency Wilhelmina.

Speaking out about the stigma that is attached to the Lohan name, the 19-year-old has admitted that she needs to go the extra mile to 'prove herself.'

'I hope that my dedication to work outshines any name that is attached to me,' she told The Daily Beast, alluding to her big sister's roll call of arrests and court appearances.

But obviously keen to show her support for the 26-year-old, she added: 'I’m proud to be a Lohan and I will always will be.'

Despite her now notorious surname, Ali has insisted that she wants to be successful in her own right and doesn't want to use her family as a springboard.

Speaking to Woman's Wear Daily, she said: 'I would just like to be known as my own person. I don’t need to ride on any coattails.'

'I just want to make my mark myself. I definitely have to prove myself - just showing up on time and doing everything that you’re supposed to do,' she added.

The teen star signed her contract with the prestigious New York agency just as her actress sibling was entering court-ordered rehab at the Betty Ford Clinic last week.

And despite the very obvious differences between their lives, Ali has admitted that they're still as close as ever, telling the fashion website:

'We’re very close and speak very often. Well, the last time we spoke, I guess, was two weeks ago, so kind of often. But yeah, she’s awesome,' she said.

The rising fashion star has already had a taste of fame, appearing on mum Dina's 2008 reality show Living Lohan as well as singing on the family's 2006 Christmas album Lohan Holiday.

And since joining Wilhelmina, which also looks after Kendall Jenner and Iggy Azalea, Ali has already been getting to work, spotted on the streets of Manhattan on her first shoot, and attending a number of castings and meetings.

But while Ali - who's been told by the agency to use her full name, Aliana - is working on her career, her sister Lindsay is in the middle of her rehab stint.

'Lindsay was placed in detox for almost forty-eight hours,' a source told Radar. 'She is adapting to being back at Betty Ford and is very receptive to the care plan that has been created for her.'

She's much more gorgeous when pale. Tanning doesn't suit either of them. It boggles my mind why so many women tan when their natural skin color is far more flattering.

Wish their parents would wake up to what great daughters they have and throw their attention into helping disassociate Lindsay from the grim 24hr party people they may have inadvertently introduced them to 'cos frankly speaking nice flowers don't last long under such heavy weather conditions, she's gave them so much it's really time to give a bit back i think and her sister is the key to achieving this as she's proving a clear contrast by looking more together in the head and can help mediate between them and her to help wake Lindsay up to herself. i should be paid for this advice y'know.

Nowadays all one has to have to be a model is the height and body type. Lots of models today are butt ugly in the face, but as long as they fit in the clothes....

yeah she looks like a model but she is a catwalk model & to do the runway she needs to be more toned in certain areas and lose that really dirty look . But without the family name the industry will do her no favors .

There's a SANE Lohan and she's it. I like her. And she's hasn't falling into the same rut as Lindsay. Good for her for having her own life and not becoming another crazy Lohan.

She is waay too skinny, and nowhere near as pretty as Lindsay. Anorexia is not a pretty look girls.
